Perception of pathogenic or beneficial bacteria and their evasion of host immunity: pattern recognition receptors in the frontline.

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2015
Plants are continuously monitoring the presence of microorganisms to establish an adapted response. Plants commonly use pattern recognition receptors (PRRs) to perceive microbe- or pathogen-associated molecular patterns (MAMPs/PAMPs) which are ...

How does an RNA selfie work? EV-associated RNA in innate immunity as self or danger

open access: yesJournal of Extracellular Vesicles, 2020
Innate immunity is a first line of defence against danger. Exogenous pathogen- or microbe-associated molecular patterns (PAMPs or MAMPs) trigger innate immune responses through well-understood cellular pathways.

Toll-Like Receptors: General Molecular and Structural Biology

open access: yesJournal of Immunology Research, 2021
Background/Aim. Toll-like receptors (TLRs) are pivotal biomolecules in the immune system. Today, we are all aware of the importance of TLRs in bridging innate and adaptive immune system to each other.

The effect of environmental heterogeneity on RPW8-mediated resistance to powdery mildews in Arabidopsis thaliana [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Background and Aims: The biotic and abiotic environment of interacting hosts and parasites may vary considerably over small spatial and temporal scales. It is essential to understand how different environments affect host disease resistance because this ...

Oligogalacturonides: plant damage-associated molecular patterns and regulators of growth and development.

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2013
Oligogalacturonides (OGs) are oligomers of alpha-1,4-linked galacturonosyl residues released from plant cell walls upon partial degradation of homogalacturonan.

Eggplant and related species are promising genetic resources to dissect the plant immune response to Pseudomonas syringae and Xanthomonas euvesicatoria and to identify new resistance determinants [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The apparent lack of durability of many resistance (R) genes highlights the need for the constant identification of new genetic sources of resistance for the breeding of new disease-resistant crop cultivars.

Carbonic anhydrases CA1 and CA4 function in atmospheric CO2-modulated disease resistance [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Main conclusion Carbonic anhydrases CA1 and CA4 attenuate plant immunity and can contribute to altered disease resistance levels in response to changing atmospheric CO2 conditions.

Soil Microbial Networks Shift Across a High-Elevation Successional Gradient. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
While it is well established that microbial composition and diversity shift along environmental gradients, how interactions among microbes change is poorly understood.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

How gut sampling and microbial invasiveness/noninvasiveness provides mucosal immunity with a nonmolecular pattern means to distinguish commensals from pathogens: A review [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Mucosal immunity distinguishes not only different microbial antigens but also separates those of pathogens from those of commensals. How this is done is unknown.
