Microbial metabolism of tholin [PDF]

open access: yesIcarus, 1990
In this paper, we show that a wide variety of common soil bacteria are able to obtain their carbon and energy needs from tholin (a class of complex organic heteropolymers thought to be widely distributed through the solar system; in this case tholin was produced by passage of electrical discharge through a mixture of methane, ammonia, and water vapor).

2-Hydroxy-4-(3′-oxo-3′H-benzofuran-2′-yliden)but-2-enoic acid biosynthesis from dibenzofuran using lateral dioxygenation in a Pseudomonas putida strain B6-2 (DSM 28064)

open access: yesBioresources and Bioprocessing, 2018
Background Benzofuran and its derivatives contain central pharmacophores and are important structures in medicinal chemistry. Chemical synthesis of benzofuran rings often requires expensive catalysts and stringent operational conditions.

Microbial carbon use efficiency predicted from genome-scale metabolic models [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Respiration by soil bacteria and fungi is one of the largest fluxes of carbon (C) from the land surface. Although this flux is a direct product of microbial metabolism, controls over metabolism and their responses to global change are a major uncertainty

Gut Microbial Metabolism and Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
The gut microbiome, the multispecies community of microbes that exists in the gastrointestinal tract, encodes several orders of magnitude more functional genes than the human genome. It also plays a pivotal role in human health, in part due to metabolism

A human stool-derived Bilophila wadsworthia strain caused systemic inflammation in specific-pathogen-free mice

open access: yesGut Pathogens, 2017
Background Bilophila wadsworthia is a major member of sulfidogenic bacteria in human gut, it was originally recovered from different clinical specimens of intra-abdominal infections and recently was reported potentially linked to different chronic ...

The impacts of ocean acidification, warming and their interactive effects on coral prokaryotic symbionts

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiome, 2023
Background Reef-building corals, the foundation of tropical coral reefs, are vulnerable to climate change e.g. ocean acidification and elevated seawater temperature.

Identification, synthesis and regulatory function of the N-acylated homoserine lactone signals produced by Pseudomonas chlororaphis HT66

open access: yesMicrobial Cell Factories, 2018
Background Pseudomonas chlororaphis HT66 isolated from the rice rhizosphere is an important plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria that produce phenazine-1-carboxamide (PCN) in high yield.

Nutrient cross-feeding in the microbial world. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The stability and function of a microbial community depends on nutritional interactions among community members such as the cross-feeding of essential small molecules synthesized by a subset of the population.

Isolation of a Novel Thermophilic Methanogen and the Evolutionary History of the Class Methanobacteria

open access: yesBiology, 2022
Methanogens can produce methane in anaerobic environments via the methanogenesis pathway, and are regarded as one of the most ancient life forms on Earth.
