Gut-liver axis and liver diseases: the role of the gut microbiota and future implications

open access: yes, 2022
reservedIn recent years, substantial study has been conducted on the human gut microbiota, and our understanding of the resident species and their potential functional capacity is quickly expanding.

Subgingival microbiota in health compared to periodontitis and the influence of smoking. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The etiology of periodontitis has traditionally been associated to a consortium of three bacterial species-the so-called "red-complex" of periodontal disease-which has been the target for most diagnostic and therapeutic strategies. However, other species

Targeting Peptostreptococcus anaerobius with an Iron‐Based Nanozyme Reverses Ferroptosis Resistance and Enhances Antitumor Immunity in Colorectal Cancer

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
An iron‐based nanozyme selectively eliminates intratumoral P. anaerobius while catalytically generating ROS to induce ferroptosis, synergistically suppressing colorectal cancer growth and activating anti‐tumor immunity through immunogenic cell death. ABSTRACT The intratumoral microbiota is a critical determinant of therapeutic outcomes in colorectal ...

Role of Gut Microbiota in Neuroendocrine Regulation of Carbohydrate and Lipid Metabolism via the Microbiota-Gut-Brain-Liver Axis

open access: yes, 2020
Gut microbiota play an important role in maintaining intestinal health and are involved in the metabolism of carbohydrates, lipids, and amino acids. Recent studies have shown that the central nervous system (CNS) and enteric nervous system (ENS) can ...

Nutritional sex-specificity on bacterial metabolites during mosquito (Aedes aegypti) development leads to adult sex-ratio distortion

open access: yesCommunications Biology
Mosquitoes rely on their microbiota for B vitamin synthesis. We previously found that Aedes aegypti third-instar larvae cleared of their microbiota were impaired in their development, notably due to a lack of folic acid (vitamin B9).

RNA Helicase DDX21 Controls CD4+ T Cell Proliferation and Promotes Inflammatory Bowel Disease via Translational Control

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is characterized by dysregulated T cell responses. RNA helicases, including DExD‐box helicase 21 (DDX21), are pivotal in RNA metabolism, but their role in T cell‐mediated pathology during IBD remains unclear. Here, we demonstrate that DDX21 expression in CD4+ T cells correlates with cell cycle and translation ...

The Role of Targeted Microbiota Therapy in the Prevention and Management of Puerperal Mastitis

open access: yesDiseases
Mastitis, an inflammatory condition of the breast, significantly affects breastfeeding women and can lead to the early cessation of lactation. This article explores the pathophysiology of mastitis, distinguishing between acute mastitis (AM) and subacute ...

Dissecting the Ecological Structure of Health and Disease in the Global Gut Microbiome

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We introduce Wiredancer, a framework that identifies three continuous ecological factors of the gut microbiota. These factors exhibit distinct patterns across health and disease, jointly capturing disrupted ecological stability and offering a new perspective for precision diagnostics and therapeutic strategies.

Canagliflozin Alleviates Diabetic Glomerular Endothelial Injury via Melibiose in a Microbiota‐Dependent Manner

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Canagliflozin treatment reshapes the gut microbiota in DKD and elevates levels of melibiose, a metabolite derived from Roseburia intestinalis. Melibiose directly binds to and enhances the enzymatic activity of glyoxalase 1, leading to decreased methylglyoxal accumulation.
