Expanding the CRISPR/Cas genome-editing scope in Xenopus tropicalis

open access: yesCell & Bioscience, 2022
Background The true diploid frog, Xenopus tropicalis (X. tropicalis) is an excellent genetic model organism. To date, the CRISPR/Cas-mediated genome editing methods established in this species are mostly based on SpCas9 that requires the stringent NGG ...

Anti-S100A4 Antibody Suppresses Metastasis Formation by Blocking Stroma Cell Invasion

open access: yesNeoplasia: An International Journal for Oncology Research, 2012
The small Ca-binding protein, S100A4, has a well-established metastasis-promoting activity. Moreover, its expression is tightly correlated with poor prognosis in patients with numerous types of cancer.

Kindlin-2 mediates mechanotransduction in bone by regulating expression of Sclerostin in osteocytes

open access: yesCommunications Biology, 2021
Qin et al. show the involvement of Kindlin-2 in osteocyte mechanotransduction. They show Kindlin-2 mediates skeletal responses to mechanical stimulation through Smad 2/3 mediated inhibition of Sclerostin.

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Time after time – circadian clocks through the lens of oscillator theory

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Oscillator theory bridges physics and circadian biology. Damped oscillators require external drivers, while limit cycles emerge from delayed feedback and nonlinearities. Coupling enables tissue‐level coherence, and entrainment aligns internal clocks with environmental cues.

Tmem119 expression is downregulated in a subset of brain metastasis-associated microglia

open access: yesBMC Neuroscience
Under pathological conditions, the immune-specialized brain microenvironment contains both resident microglia and bone marrow-derived myeloid cells recruited from peripheral circulation.

Carnitine palmitoyltransferase 1C promotes EMT-associated cisplatin resistance in non-small cell lung cancer cells

open access: yesCancer Biology & Medicine
Objective: Lung cancer is the most common cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide. Platinum-based chemotherapy is one of the main treatment options for patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) but the effectiveness of chemotherapy is encumbered ...

PICALM::MLLT10 translocated leukemia

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This comprehensive review of PICALM::MLLT10 translocated acute leukemia provides an in‐depth review of the structure and function of CALM, AF10, and the fusion oncoprotein (1). The multifaceted molecular mechanisms of oncogenesis, including nucleocytoplasmic shuttling (2), epigenetic modifications (3), and disruption of endocytosis (4), are then ...

IRE1α‐XBP1s axis regulates SREBP1‐dependent MRP1 expression to promote chemoresistance in non‐small cell lung cancer cells

open access: yesThoracic Cancer
Background Inositol‐requiring enzyme 1 (IRE1) is an endoplasmic reticulum (ER)‐resident transmembrane protein that senses ER stress and mediates an essential arm of the unfolded protein response (UPR).

Inhibiting stearoyl‐CoA desaturase suppresses bone metastatic prostate cancer by modulating cellular stress, mTOR signaling, and DNA damage response

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bone metastasis in prostate cancer (PCa) patients is a clinical hurdle due to the poor understanding of the supportive bone microenvironment. Here, we identify stearoyl‐CoA desaturase (SCD) as a tumor‐promoting enzyme and potential therapeutic target in bone metastatic PCa.
