Genotoxicity evaluation of So-ochim-tang-gamibang (SOCG), a herbal medicine

open access: yesBMC Complementary and Alternative Medicine, 2018
Background So-ochim-tang-gamibang (SOCG) is a traditional Korean medicine frequently used for depression in the clinical field. In this study, we evaluated the potential genotoxicity of SOCG using three standard batteries of tests as part of a safety ...

Micronucleus test for determining genotoxic damage

open access: yesTurkish Bulletin of Hygiene and Experimental Biology, 2011
Micronuclei (MN) are formed during mitosis and do not integrate in the main nucleus. They may arise from a whole lagging chromosome or an acentric chromosome fragment. An increase of MN frequency indicates genomic instability. The MN test is commonly used to determine the genotoxic effects of chemical and physical agents on somatic cells. It is applied

Survivin and Aurora Kinase A control cell fate decisions during mitosis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, Volume 20, Issue 3, Page 727-752, March 2026.
Aurora A interacts with survivin during mitosis and regulates its centromeric role. Loss of Aurora A activity mislocalises survivin, the CPC and BubR1, leading to disruption of the spindle checkpoint and triggering premature mitotic exit, which we refer to as ‘mitotic slippage’.

Formation of viable cell fragments by treatment with colchicine [PDF]

open access: yes, 1976
Time-lapse cinematography of human fibroblasts revealed that mitotic cells separated into numerous cell fragments containing varying amounts of chromatin and cytoplasm when treated with colchicine.

KIFC1 is Associated With Sarcomatoid Differentiation, Immune Response, and a Poor Prognosis in Clear Cell Renal Cell Carcinoma

open access: yesCancer Medicine, Volume 15, Issue 3, March 2026.
ABSTRACT Introduction Centrosome clustering is a cancer‐specific adaptation that allows cells with centrosome amplification to evade mitotic catastrophe and has emerged as a potential therapeutic target. We analyzed the prognostic role of several molecules related to centrosome clustering and found that Kinesin Family Member C1 (KIFC1) was strongly ...

Replication of somatic micronuclei in bovine enucleated oocytes

open access: yesCell Division, 2012
Background Microcell-mediated chromosome transfer (MMCT) was developed to introduce a low number of chromosomes into a host cell. We have designed a novel technique combining part of MMCT with somatic cell nuclear transfer, which consists of injecting a ...

Triazine‐Naphthalimide Cage for the Recognition of Nucleotides and Parallel G‐Quadruplex

open access: yesChemistryEurope, Volume 4, Issue 3, March 2026.
A cage‐like receptor is designed by combining a triazine‐based macrocycle with a naphthalimide dye. The modular construction enables the recognition of various sites on the G‐quadruplex, specifically the phosphate residues and guanine quartets. This design approach provides strong and selective binding of parallel G‐quadruplex over double‐stranded DNA ...

Rapid Adaptation to Road Salts in a Freshwater Microbial Eukaryote

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 3, March 2026.
Road salt application is causing increased salinization of freshwater ecosystems. Using experimental evolution, we demonstrate that ciliates can quickly adapt to tolerate high salinities, but this adaptation may come at a cost to survival in the absence of salt.
