The micronucleus test with mouse spleen cells
Mutation Research Letters, 1983The results of this study show that the micronucleus test can be carried out with mouse spleen cells as well as with cells from bone marrow. Polychromatic erythrocytes occurred in the spleen at a frequency of about 9% of the whole spleen cells compared with about 13% in the bone marrow. 3 test compounds were used to compare the frequency of micronuclei

The automated bone marrow micronucleus test
Mutation Research - Fundamental and Molecular Mechanisms of Mutagenesis, 1989A new technology is presented which offers high-quality slides enabling the fully automated scoring of large quantities of erythrocytic cells for micronuclei by computerized image analysis. The techniques are applicable to bone marrow specimens as well as to peripheral blood obtained from various species of laboratory animals as well as from man.

The micronucleus test: Statistical design and analysis
Mutation Research/Environmental Mutagenesis and Related Subjects, 1979Alternative statistical procedures are discussed which may be employed to compare the incidences among treatment groups of micronucleated polychromatic and normochromatic erythrocytes and their ratios. Comparison of incidences of micronucleated polychromatic erythrocytes using a sequential sampling strategy based on the negative binomial distribution ...

Genetic toxicological testing of some dyes by the micronucleus test
Mutation Research/Genetic Toxicology, 1986Three widely used dyes, acridine orange, blue VRS and fast green FCF were administered to male mice in order to study the induction of gross chromosomal anomalies using the micronucleus test. All 3 compounds were shown to be clastogenic.

The Micronucleus Test on Exfoliated Human Cells
1985The frequency of micronuclei in exfoliated human or animal cells can be used as an “endogenous dosimeter” present in tissues which are targets for carcinogenic and genotoxic agents and from which carcinomas arise. The application of the micronucleus test to exfoliated cells of various human tissues will provide evidence of exposure to carcinogens and ...

Mercury, one of the most widely diffused and hazardous organ-specific environmental contaminants, exists in a wide variety of physical and chemical states, each of which with unique characteristics of target organ specificity (Aleo et al. 2002). In nature the different forms of mercury include the metallic form, inorganic compounds, as well as alkyl ...

The aim of this study was to determine the mechanism of the rodent bone marrow micronucleus test in relation to erythropoiesis. We have previously reported that an acceleration of erythropoiesis increases the frequency of micronucleated polychromatic erythrocytes (MPCE) induced by mutagens.

Mutation Research/Environmental Mutagenesis and Related Subjects, 1993
In vivo somatic chromosome mutation tests are usually carried out using the bone marrow micronucleus test in the mouse. This test is also considered predictive for the study of clastogenic effects in germ cells. However, it has been reported that the sensitivity of the bone marrow micronucleus test is insufficient to detect unstable compounds or short ...

Strain difference in the micronucleus test
Mutation Research/Genetic Toxicology, 1988Abstract The Collaborative Study Group for the Micronucleus Test, a task group of the Environmental Mutagen Society of Japan, has earlier addressed the question of sex difference as a source of variation in the micronucleus test. Strain difference, another issue in test protocols requiring urgent clarification, was selected as the subject of the ...
