Propulsion of a chiral swimmer in viscoelastic fluids

open access: yesPhysical Review Research
Microswimmers often use chirality to generate translational movement from rotation motion, exhibiting distinct behaviors in complex fluids compared to simple Newtonian fluids. However, the underlying mechanism remains incompletely understood.

Trypanosoma brucei moving in microchannels and through constrictions

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics
Trypanosoma brucei ( T. brucei ), a single-celled parasite and natural microswimmer, is responsible for fatal sleeping sickness in infected mammals, including humans. Understanding how T.

Motion of microswimmers in cylindrical microchannels

open access: yesSoft Matter
Microswimmers in confinement slow down, and can exert pulling or pushing forces in particular at the end of a closed channel. Simulations and approximate theoretical calculation for the squirmer model are employed to predict this behavior.

Pattern selection and the route to turbulence in incompressible polar active fluids

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics
Active fluids, such as suspensions of microswimmers, are well known to self-organize into complex spatio-temporal flow patterns. An intriguing example is mesoscale turbulence, a state of dynamic vortex structures exhibiting a characteristic length scale.

Hyper-Ballistic Superdiffusion of Competing Microswimmers

open access: yesEntropy
Hyper-ballistic diffusion is shown to arise from a simple model of microswimmers moving through a porous media while competing for resources. By using a mean-field model where swimmers interact through the local concentration, we show that a non-linear Fokker–Planck equation arises.
