Expression of corticoid‐regulatory genes in the gills of Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) parr and smolt and during salinity acclimation

open access: yesJournal of Fish Biology, EarlyView.
Abstract In teleost fishes, cortisol is the major corticoid and has both glucocorticoid and mineralocorticoid actions. However, how fish tissues discriminate between these distinct corticosteroid actions is unclear. In mammals, the major factors responsible for intracellular corticosteroid regulation are glucocorticoid receptors (grs) and the ...

The urinary albumin‐to‐creatinine ratio can direct personalized prevention and treatment for cardiovascular and chronic kidney disease

open access: yesJournal of Internal Medicine, EarlyView.
Abstract Increased urinary albumin excretion is a strong predictor for cardiovascular events in persons with and without decreased glomerular filtration rate and can be assessed with the urinary albumin‐to‐creatinine ratio (UACR), which is a selective, sensitive, and convenient method for patients.

A mini‐review of chronic suppression of the hypothalamic–pituitary–adrenal axis in animals with P‐glycoprotein deficiency

open access: yesJournal of Small Animal Practice, EarlyView.
This mini‐review describes the pathophysiology of the disrupted hypothalamic–pituitary–adrenal axis in dogs, and probably cats, with the MDR1 (ABCB1) mutation, ABCB1‐1Δ in dogs and ABCB11930‐1931del TC in cats. Clinical consequences in affected animals are discussed and therapeutic interventions to consider are presented.

GLP‐1 Receptor Agonists for the Prevention of New‐Onset Heart Failure: A Systematic Review and Meta‐Analysis of Placebo‐Controlled Randomized Clinical Trials

open access: yesObesity Reviews, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Glucagon‐like peptide‐1 receptor agonists (GLP‐1 RA) improve outcomes in heart failure (HF) with preserved ejection fraction. Whether GLP‐1 RA prevent new‐onset HF in Type 2 diabetes or obesity requires further investigation. Methods We performed an updated meta‐analysis of randomized placebo‐controlled trials (RCT) of treatment ...
