Research progress on plant noncoding RNAs in response to low-temperature stress

open access: yesPlant Signaling & Behavior, 2022
Low temperature (LT) is an important factor limiting plant growth and distribution. Plants have evolved sophisticated adaptive mechanisms to cope with hypothermia. RNA silencing is the orchestrator of these cellular responses.

Mammalian cells in culture actively export specific microRNAs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The discovery of microRNAs (miRNAs) as a new class of regulators of gene expression has triggered an explosion of research, but has left many unanswered questions about how this regulation works and how it is integrated with other regulatory mechanisms ...

Microguards and micromessengers of the genome [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The regulation of gene expression is of fundamental importance to maintain organismal function and integrity and requires a multifaceted and highly ordered sequence of events.

The neural crest‐associated gene ERRFI1 is involved in melanoma progression and resistance toward targeted therapy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
ERRFI1, a neural crest (NC)‐associated gene, was upregulated in melanoma and negatively correlated with the expression of melanocytic differentiation markers and the susceptibility of melanoma cells toward BRAF inhibitors (BRAFi). Knocking down ERRFI1 significantly increased the sensitivity of melanoma cells to BRAFi.

Optimization of miRNA-seq data preprocessing. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The past two decades of microRNA (miRNA) research has solidified the role of these small non-coding RNAs as key regulators of many biological processes and promising biomarkers for disease.

Obesity-associated exosomal miRNAs modulate glucose and lipid metabolism in mice

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America, 2018
Significance The presence of extracellular miRNAs in body fluids has been exploited as a brand-new source of biomarkers for different diseases. A fraction of those extracellular miRNAs, contained in extracellular vesicles and exosomes, are additionally ...

Mammalian alphaherpesvirus miRNAs [PDF]

open access: yesBiochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Gene Regulatory Mechanisms, 2011
Mammalian alphaherpesviruses are major causes of human and veterinary disease. During productive infection, these viruses exhibit complex and robust patterns of gene expression. These viruses also form latent infections in neurons of sensory ganglia in which productive cycle gene expression is highly repressed.

Liquid biopsy epigenetics: establishing a molecular profile based on cell‐free DNA

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cell‐free DNA (cfDNA) fragments in plasma from cancer patients carry epigenetic signatures reflecting their cells of origin. These epigenetic features include DNA methylation, nucleosome modifications, and variations in fragmentation. This review describes the biological properties of each feature and explores optimal strategies for harnessing cfDNA ...

Modulation of microRNA editing, expression and processing by ADAR2 deaminase in glioblastoma. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Background: ADAR enzymes convert adenosines to inosines within double-stranded RNAs, including microRNA (miRNA) precursors, with important consequences on miRNA retargeting and expression.

Intronic MicroRNA (miRNA) [PDF]

open access: yesBioMed Research International, 2006
Nearly 97% of the human genome is composed of noncoding DNA, which varies from one species to another. Changes in these sequences often manifest themselves in clinical and circumstantial malfunction. Numerous genes in these non‐protein‐coding regions encode microRNAs, which are responsible for RNA‐mediated gene silencing through RNA interference (RNAi)‐
