Comparison of reproducibility, accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity of miRNA quantification platforms [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Given the increasing interest in their use as disease biomarkers, the establishment of reproducible, accurate, sensitive, and specific platforms for microRNA (miRNA) quantification in biofluids is of high priority.

Differential regulation of ZFAS1 splice variants by endoplasmic reticulum stress in hepatocyte cell lines

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
ZFAS1 is a lncRNA promoting cell proliferation and migration, exhibiting high expression in various cancers. It is conserved, widely expressed, and produces multiple splice variants with unclear roles. We identified several splice variants in hepatocyte models, and found that inhibiting or suppressing regulators of the unfolded protein response (PERK ...

miRNA-146-a, miRNA-21, miRNA-143, miRNA-29-b and miRNA-223 as Potential Biomarkers for Atopic Dermatitis

open access: yesClinics and Practice
Background/Objectives: Recently, epigenetic mechanisms have been recognized as crucial in atopic dermatitis development. The emphasis of this research was on expanding existing knowledge about the epigenetic aspects of atopic dermatitis, as well as identifying new molecules that could serve as disease biomarkers.

miRNAs: Whys and Wherefores of miRNA-Mediated Regulation [PDF]

open access: yesCurrent Biology, 2005
MiRNAs are assumed to be important in animal development and physiology, but their specific roles in vivo are still poorly understood. New bioinformatic and genetic studies are setting the stage for unraveling the specific biological functions of miRNAs.

The cooperative regulation of miR‐221 by APE1 and AUF1 impacts p27Kip1 defining a miR signature relevant for cervical cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
A regulatory axis involving APE1, AUF1, and miR‐221 is proposed. Pri‐miR‐221 is processed by DROSHA and DICER to generate mature miR‐221, which targets p27Kip1 mRNA. APE1 and AUF1 compete for pre‐miR‐221 binding. Reduced APE1/AUF1 levels impair miR‐221 biogenesis, decrease p27Kip1 mRNA degradation, and promote cell cycle progression, chemoresistance ...

MicroRNA-like RNAs from the same miRNA precursors play a role in cassava chilling responses [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are known to play important roles in various cellular processes and stress responses. MiRNAs can be identified by analyzing reads from high-throughput deep sequencing.

PARP inhibitors induce a senescence phenotype in non‐small cell lung carcinoma cell lines

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Talazoparib is the most potent inducer of senescence among different PARP1 inhibitors in human NSCLC cells. In the absence of PARP, no senescence phenotype was observed, demonstrating that PARP1 is necessary for the induction of senescence by this inhibitor.

Role of dietary phytochemicals in modulation of miRNA expression: Natural swords combating breast cancer

open access: yesAsian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine, 2018
The National Cancer Institute had projected breast cancer (BC) as one of the topmost prevalent malignancies around the globe. In many cases, BC becomes resistant to chemotherapy, radiation and hormonal therapies.
