Comparing the Effect of Grape Fermentative Product and Fresh Red Grape Juice on Antioxidant Biomarkers of Liver Mitochondria Isolated From Rats in Vitro

open access: yesResearch in Molecular Medicine, 2021
Background: Mitochondria are a source of reactive oxygen species (ROS), and several natural compounds are used as antioxidant agents. This study aimed to investigate and compare the effects of fresh grape juice red wine on oxidative stress biomarkers in ...

Ammonia-induced mitochondrial dysfunction and energy metabolism disturbances in isolated brain and liver mitochondria, and the effect of taurine administration: relevance to hepatic encephalopathy treatment

open access: yesClinical and Experimental Hepatology, 2017
Introduction Ammonia-induced oxidative stress, mitochondrial dysfunction, and energy crisis are known as some the major mechanisms of brain injury in hepatic encephalopathy (HE). Hyperammonemia also affects the liver and hepatocytes. Therefore, targeting

Germinal proto-mitochondria from rat liver

open access: yesBiochemistry and Biophysics Reports, 2019
A number of properties of the smallest (less than 0.2 μm) germinal proto-mitochondria (PRMC) from rat liver have been studied. These PRMC were obtained by filtering the light fraction of hepatic mitochondria (MC) through calibrated millipore membranes. Germinal PRMC contain in general the same proteins as MC.

Synergistic interaction of fatty acids and oxysterols impairs mitochondrial function and limits liver adaptation during nafld progression [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The complete mechanism accounting for the progression from simple steatosis to steatohepatitis in nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) has not been elucidated.

Phosphatidylserine biosynthesis in mitochondria from the Morris 7777 hepatoma.

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1979
Mitochondria from the 7777 hepatoma incorporate substantial amounts of l-[U-(14)C]serine into phospholipid by a Ca(2+)-dependent base-exchange reaction. This reaction is virtually absent in normal liver mitochondria.

Ethanol Consumption and Liver Mitochondria Function

open access: yesNeurosignals, 2001
The mitochondrion is the subcellular organelle affected earliest during the development of alcoholic liver disease. As a result of chronic ethanol consumption mitochondrial protein synthesis is decreased significantly due to a depression in the functioning of the mitochondrial ribosome.

Alanine Metabolism in Rat Liver Mitochondria [PDF]

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Biochemistry, 1978
In the presence of 2‐oxoglutarate, bicarbonate, Pi and ATP, rat liver mitochondria were found to metabolize alanine. The main products were glutamate, aspartate, malate and citrate. Pyruvate did not accumulate but reached a low steady‐state concentration. Addition of octanoate caused a strong stimulation of alanine metabolism and a concomitant decrease

Morphology of mitochondria and cell respiration,pt.1. [PDF]

open access: yes, 1960
To reveal the mechanism of liver damage by taking CCl4 the author observed the liver tissues from rats at 1.5, 5, 6, 10, 17, 20, and 22 hours after the CCl4 administration, both by light microscope and electron-microscope. 1. Light microscope observation

Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

Living unicellular eukaryote Tetrahymena pyriformis as a model for study of mitochondrial energetics in mammalian cells under conditions of reduced oxidative metabolism. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Some “animal-like” protozoa are used instead of mammalian cells in diverse investigations. _Tetrahymena pyriformis_ cells in stationary phase of growth and washed from oxidative substrates (_T.pyriformis_) function under conditions of ...
