Residual tail twisting in ascidian larvae is stabilized by asymmetric myofibrils that resist bilateral symmetry restoration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ascidian Ciona larvae initially show strong clockwise tail twisting, which is largely corrected during development. However, a small residual twist remains. This study shows that organized helical myofibrils in tail muscles mechanically stabilize this residual asymmetry, preventing complete restoration of bilateral symmetry and revealing how embryos ...

A Memory Arbitration Scheme for Mixed-Criticality Multicore Platforms

open access: yes, 2014
In mixed-criticality systems, applications of different crit- icality levels share the same computing platform. To avoid spatial and temporal interference of the applications, the computing platform must implement measures for spatial and temporal ...

The human gut microbiome across the life course

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Despite significant individual variation and continuous change throughout life, the human gut microbiome follows some life stage‐specific trends. This article provides a brief overview of how gut microbiome composition shifts across different phases of life. Created in BioRender. Özkurt, E. (2026) https://BioRender.com/8q4nrnc.

Extending eXsched with mixed criticality support - An experience report

open access: yes, 2017
This paper describes our experience with extending ExSched, an operating system independent external CPU scheduler framework for real-time systems, with support for mixed criticality.

Criticality-Aware EDF Scheduling for Constrained-Deadline Imprecise Mixed-Criticality Systems

open access: yes, 2023
EDF-VD first focuses on the classic mixed-criticality task model in which all low criticality (LO) tasks are abandoned in the high criticality mode, which is an effective dynamic priority scheduling algorithm for mixed-criticality systems.

Rab14 regulates the transport of human papillomavirus to the trans‐Golgi network for infectious cell entry

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals that the small GTPase Rab14 is necessary for human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and plays an essential role in the transport of virions to the trans‐Golgi network (TGN). HPV in the early endosome (EE), which harbors GTP‐bound Rab14, is transported to the TGN through the switch of Rab14 from its GTP‐bound to GDP‐bound form.

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

Semi-Slack Scheduling Arbitrary Activation Patterns in Mixed-Criticality Systems

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2018
This paper proposes a semi-slack scheduling framework for mixed-criticality systems with arbitrary task activation patterns. In particular, based on the schedulability test of arbitrary task activation model, we present a tight slack-reclaim scheme that ...

Modulation of Homer1 EVH1 domain internal dynamics by putative autism‐associated mutations

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The putative autism‐associated M65I and S97L variants of the EVH1 domain of the postsynaptic scaffold protein Homer1 do not exhibit substantial changes in their overall structure or partner binding. Both of them, but especially the M65I variant, show altered internal dynamics relative to the wild‐type domain on the μs‐ms timescale, indicated by the ...

Scheduling real-time mixed-criticality jobs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Many safety-critical embedded systems are subject to certification requirements; some systems may be required to meet multiple sets of certification requirements, from different certification authorities.
