Mobile Genetic Elements of Fusobacterium nucleatum

open access: yesPlasmid, 1995
The gram-negative anaerobic bacterium, Fusobacterium nucleatum, is a predominant member of the human oral flora. As a major component of subgingival plaque, this bacterium has a significant impact on the ecology of the oral cavity due to its ability to adhere to many different microbial species.

Cell surface interactome analysis identifies TSPAN4 as a negative regulator of PD‐L1 in melanoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Using cell surface proximity biotinylation, we identified tetraspanin TSPAN4 within the PD‐L1 interactome of melanoma cells. TSPAN4 negatively regulates PD‐L1 expression and lateral mobility by limiting its interaction with CMTM6 and promoting PD‐L1 degradation.

Suspended Materials in River Waters Differentially Enrich Class 1 Integron- and IncP-1 Plasmid-Carrying Bacteria in Sediments

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2018
Aquatic ecosystems are frequently considered as the final receiving environments of anthropogenic pollutants such as pharmaceutical residues or antibiotic resistant bacteria, and as a consequence tend to form reservoirs of antibiotic resistance genes ...

Cargo Genes of Tn7-Like Transposons Comprise an Enormous Diversity of Defense Systems, Mobile Genetic Elements, and Antibiotic Resistance Genes

open access: yesbioRxiv, 2021
Transposons are major vehicles of horizontal gene transfer that, in addition to genes directly involved in transposition, carry cargo genes. However, characterization of these genes is hampered by the difficulty of identification of transposon boundaries.

Mobile genetic elements and genome evolution 2014 [PDF]

open access: yesMobile DNA, 2014
The Mobile Genetic Elements and Genome Evolution conference was hosted by Keystone Symposia in Santa Fe, NM USA, 9 March through 14 March 2014. The goal of this conference was to bring together scientists from around the world who study transposable elements in diverse organisms and researchers who study the impact these elements have on genome ...

Gene transfer in the GI tract and oral cavity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
Gene transfer is important in spreading antibiotic resistance and other traits such as virulence factors. In this review the molecular mechanisms of gene transfer are outlined and the biological consequences of bacterial gene transfer in the GI tract and

Plecstatin inhibits hepatocellular carcinoma tumorigenesis and invasion through cytolinker plectin

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The ruthenium‐based metallodrug plecstatin exerts its anticancer effect in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) primarily through selective targeting of plectin. By disrupting plectin‐mediated cytoskeletal organization, plecstatin inhibits anchorage‐dependent growth, cell polarization, and tumor cell dissemination.

Detection of mobile genetic elements in multidrug-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae isolated from different infection sites in Hamadan, west of Iran

open access: yesBMC Research Notes, 2021
Objective Klebsiella pneumoniae is one of most opportunistic pathogens that can be related to nosocomial infections. Increased acquisitions of multidrug resistance in this bacterium as well as the transfer of genes to other strains have caused concern ...

Sequence analysis of tyrosine recombinases allows annotation of mobile genetic elements in prokaryotic genomes

open access: yesMolecular Systems Biology, 2021
Mobile genetic elements (MGEs) sequester and mobilize antibiotic resistance genes across bacterial genomes. Efficient and reliable identification of such elements is necessary to follow resistance spreading.

Mobile Genetic Elements inMoraxella catarrhalis [PDF]

open access: yesMobile Genetic Elements, 2011
Moraxella catarrhalis is a Gram-negative diplococcus that is a strict human pathogen, which for a long period of time was regarded as a simple commensal. Research now shows that this organism is a pathogen its own right and is associated with both upper and lower respiratory tract infections.
