Residual tail twisting in ascidian larvae is stabilized by asymmetric myofibrils that resist bilateral symmetry restoration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ascidian Ciona larvae initially show strong clockwise tail twisting, which is largely corrected during development. However, a small residual twist remains. This study shows that organized helical myofibrils in tail muscles mechanically stabilize this residual asymmetry, preventing complete restoration of bilateral symmetry and revealing how embryos ...

Experiences from Clinical Research and Routine Use of Florbetaben Amyloid PET—A Decade of Post-Authorization Insights

open access: yesPharmaceuticals
Florbetaben (FBB) is a radiopharmaceutical approved by the FDA and EMA in 2014 for the positron emission tomography (PET) imaging of brain amyloid deposition in patients with cognitive impairment who are being evaluated for Alzheimer’s disease (AD) or ...

Biophysical approaches for studying viral entry

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Viruses infect all living organisms and have been responsible for major epidemics and pandemics. Their ongoing evolutionary battle with host defenses creates a constant need for improved tools to study viral behavior. Advancing methods to probe viral attachment, fusion, and genome release deepen our understanding of how infections begin and support the

Developing a system for the molecular imaging of freely moving rats

open access: yes, 2012
Using molecular imaging to obtain time-activity data from the organs of living animals that are free to move, behave and respond to stimuli is a tantalising prospect for preclinical investigations.

Septin 9 PB domains coordinate centrosome positioning and microtubule acetylation to control epithelial polarity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Septin 9 polybasic domains couple phosphoinositide‐rich membrane binding to centrosome positioning, Golgi organization, and microtubule acetylation to control epithelial polarity. Their loss disrupts this axis, causing centrosome mispositioning, Golgi fragmentation, reduced microtubule acetylation, and polarity inversion via upregulation of the ...

Intraoperative Pancreatic Cancer Detection using Tumor-Specific Multimodality Molecular Imaging

open access: yesAnnals of Surgical Oncology, 2018
BackgroundOperative management of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is complicated by several key decisions during the procedure. Identification of metastatic disease at the outset and, when none is found, complete (R0) resection of primary tumor ...

In-vitro interaction studies between the amyloid PET tracer florbetaben and the amyloid-beta targeting antibodies lecanemab and donanemab on AD brain samples reveal no interferences

open access: yesAlzheimer’s Research & Therapy
Background Amyloid PET imaging enables the in vivo visualization and quantification of amyloid-beta deposits in the brain. In research and clinical settings, it is further used to monitor amyloid-beta burden as well as the biological response to disease ...

Rab14 regulates the transport of human papillomavirus to the trans‐Golgi network for infectious cell entry

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals that the small GTPase Rab14 is necessary for human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and plays an essential role in the transport of virions to the trans‐Golgi network (TGN). HPV in the early endosome (EE), which harbors GTP‐bound Rab14, is transported to the TGN through the switch of Rab14 from its GTP‐bound to GDP‐bound form.
