A Bibliometric Analysis of Publications in Uremic Toxins From 1991 to 2024

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Uremic toxins are a growing area of research in nephrology, with significant implications in the progression and treatment of chronic kidney disease (CKD) and the management of end‐stage kidney disease (ESKD). This bibliometric analysis aims to evaluate the global research trends, key contributors, and the impact of publications in ...

Enteropathogenic E. coli shows delayed attachment and host response in human jejunum organoid‐derived monolayers compared to HeLa cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Enteropathogenic E. coli (EPEC) infects the human intestinal epithelium, resulting in severe illness and diarrhoea. In this study, we compared the infection of cancer‐derived cell lines with human organoid‐derived models of the small intestine. We observed a delayed in attachment, inflammation and cell death on primary cells, indicating that host ...

Molecular Spectra and Molecular Structure [PDF]

open access: yesNature, 1929
THOSE who contributed to the recent Faraday Discussion on molecular spectra and molecular structure have now sent their written versions to the secretary for publication. Instead of the report we gave of Prof. Barker's explanation of the double Q branch of ammonia at 10.3 μ and 10.7 μ (NATURE, Oct. 12, p. 587), we should like to substitute Prof. Barker'

On the irregularity of some molecular structures [PDF]

open access: yesCanadian Journal of Chemistry, 2017
Measures of the irregularity of chemical graphs could be helpful for QSAR/QSPR studies and for the descriptive purposes of biological and chemical properties such as melting and boiling points, toxicity, and resistance. Here, we consider the following four established irregularity measures: the irregularity index by Albertson, the total irregularity ...

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

A new cellular model to follow Friedreich's ataxia development in a time-resolved way

open access: yesDisease Models & Mechanisms, 2015
Friedreich's ataxia (FRDA) is a recessive autosomal ataxia caused by reduced levels of frataxin (FXN), an essential mitochondrial protein that is highly conserved from bacteria to primates.

Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Structure and mechanism of the HECT ligase HECTD3

open access: yesNature Communications
HECT E3 ligases regulate many cellular processes, yet how they recognise their substrates and synthesise specific types of poly-ubiquitin chains is still incompletely understood.

Nanobodies Protecting From Lethal SARS-CoV-2 Infection Target Receptor Binding Epitopes Preserved in Virus Variants Other Than Omicron

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2022
The emergence of SARS-CoV-2 variants that escape from immune neutralization are challenging vaccines and antibodies developed to stop the COVID-19 pandemic.
