The acyl-CoA-binding protein 2 exhibited the highest affinity for palmitoyl-CoA and promoted Monascus pigment production

open access: yesAnnals of Microbiology, 2023
Purpose The present study aimed to explore the binding ability of acyl-CoA binding protein 2 to fatty acid acyl-CoA esters and its effect on Monascus pigment production in M. ruber CICC41233. Methods The Mracbp2 gene from M.

Insight into the phylogeny and metabolic divergence of Monascus species (M. pilosus, M. ruber, and M. purpureus) at the genome level

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2023
BackgroundSpecies of the genus Monascus are economically important and widely used in the production of food colorants and monacolin K. However, they have also been known to produce the mycotoxin citrinin.

Production of angkak through co-culture of Monascus purpureus and Monascus ruber [PDF]

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Microbiology, 2010
Angkak (red mold rice, red yeast rice, Chinese red rice) is a traditional Chinese medicine produced by solid-state fermentation of cooked non-glutinous rice with Monascus species. The secondary metabolite of Monascus species, monacolin K /lovastatin, has been proven to lower blood lipid levels. In this study, a co-culture of Monascus purpureus MTCC 369

Production of pigments by Monascus ruber CCT0302 in culture media containing maltose as substrate

open access: yesFrontiers in Sustainable Food Systems, 2022
The aim of this study was to show how maltose production residues can be used to obtain natural pigments by Monascus ruber CCT 3802 in solid and submerged cultures.

Investigation of monacolin K, yellow pigments, and citrinin production capabilities of Monascus purpureus and Monascus ruber (Monascus pilosus)

open access: yesJournal of Food and Drug Analysis, 2023
Red mold rice (RMR) is a traditional Chinese medicine prepared using Monascus fermentation. M. ruber (pilosus) and M. purpureus have a long history of use as food and medicine. As an economically important starter culture, the relationship between the taxonomy of Monascus and production capabilities of secondary metabolites is crucial for the Monascus ...

Effect of Static Magnetic Field on Monascus ruber M7 Based on Transcriptome Analysis

open access: yesJournal of Fungi, 2021
The effects of a static magnetic field (SMF) on Monascus ruber M7 (M. ruber M7) cultured on potato dextrose agar (PDA) plates under SMF treatment at different intensities (5, 10, and 30 mT) were investigated in this paper.

A systematic study of the production of Monacolin K by solid state fermentation of Monascus ruber

open access: yesAMB Express, 2022
Key points A systematic study for Monacolin K produced by SSF of Monascus ruber. Initial moisture and bran content are the key factors for the SSF of Monascus. A proper bran content could suppress the influence of excessive media amount.

The acyl-CoA binding protein affects Monascus pigment production in Monascus ruber CICC41233 [PDF]

open access: yes3 Biotech, 2018
The present study verified whether acyl-coenzyme A (acyl-CoA)-binding protein (ACBP) affected the production of Monascus pigments (MPs) in Monascus ruber CICC41233 (MrACBP). Phylogenetic analysis revealed that the cloned Mracbp gene, which encoded the MrACBP protein, exhibited the closest match (99% confidence level) to the gene from Penicilliopsis ...

Core Steps to the Azaphilone Family of Fungal Natural Products

open access: yesChemBioChem, Volume 22, Issue 21, Page 3027-3036, November 3, 2021., 2021
Azaphilones are a polyketide‐based family of fungal natural products with a highly oxygenated bicyclic pyrone‐quinone structure, many of which have useful and interesting bioactivities. This minireview reveals the common steps in azaphilone biosynthetic pathways to aid the use of genome mining to identify orphan azaphilone biosynthetic gene clusters ...

Monascus ruber: A Rare Cause of Onychomycosis

open access: yesJournal of Emerging Infectious Diseases, 2016
We report a case of onychomycosis from a 71-year old man which was caused by Monascus ruber. The diagnosis was based on culture morphological characteristics on Sabouraud’s Dextrose agar and Malt Extract agar. The patient was successfully treated with oral terbinafine.
