Impact of incretin analogues on lipid and lipoprotein metabolism in obesity and diabetes
Abstract Incretin‐based therapies have gained momentum as a key strategy for reducing cardiovascular risk in individuals with obesity and/or type 2 diabetes (T2D). It remains unclear whether the cardiovascular benefits reflect a direct reduction in atherogenic lipoproteins—namely, low‐density lipoproteins (LDL), very low‐density lipoproteins (VLDL) and

Assessment of a Spectrophotometric Assay for Monoacylglycerol Lipase Activity
Endocannabinoids are lipid-signaling molecules that bind cannabinoid receptors. These G-protein-coupled receptors were discovered as binding sites for Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the psychoactive component of marijuana (Cannabis sativa) (1). Two types of cannabinoid receptors are known: cannabinoid receptor 1 (CB1) and cannabinoid receptor 2 (CB2 ...

The carboxylesterase (carboxylic-ester hydrolase, EC 3.1.1.1) and monoacylglycerol lipase (glycerol-monoester acylhydrolase, EC 3.1.1.23) activities, measured against ethyl butyrate and emulsified monooleoylglycerol respectively, were determined for ...

Design, synthesis and biological evaluation of second-generation benzoylpiperidine derivatives as reversible monoacylglycerol lipase (MAGL) inhibitors. [PDF]
An interesting enzyme of the endocannabinoid system is monoacylglycerol lipase (MAGL). This enzyme, which metabolizes the endocannabinoid 2-arachidonoylglycerol (2-AG), has attracted great interest due to its involvement in several physiological and ...

The malate–aspartate shuttle supports thermogenic lipid mobilization in brown adipocytes
Brown fat cells burn lipids within their mitochondria to generate heat. This process involves two energy “shuttles,” one of which is naturally blocked during heat production. We found that the second shuttle (MASh) is not required to generate heat. However, when MASh is disabled, the fatty acids meant for fuel are instead converted back into stored fat.

Development of an HPLC/UV assay for the evaluation of inhibitors of human recombinant monoacylglycerol lipase [PDF]
Monoacylglycerol lipase (MAGL) is a membrane-associated cytosolic serine hydrolase which catalyses the hydrolysis of the endocannabinoid 2-arachidonoylglycerol into arachidonic acid and glycerol.

Fetal growth restriction is associated with placental metabolic adaptations. In small‐for‐gestational‐age placenta (SGA), cholesterol receptors and steroidogenic enzymes are upregulated, enhancing steroidogenesis. NAD salvage pathway is also increased to support NADP+/NADPH requirements.

This scheme illustrates the main results of the present study showing an increase in circulating free fatty acids (FFA) that are likely to be related to several mechanisms like decrease in FFA insulin sensitivity and increase in FFA production. Significant changes are labelled in white, and non‐significant or hypothesis are labelled in pale green ...
