Elevation of Non-Classical (CD14+/lowCD16++) Monocytes Is Associated with Increased Albuminuria and Urine TGF-β1 in HIV-Infected Individuals on Stable Antiretroviral Therapy. [PDF]
OBJECTIVE:High rates of albuminuria are observed among HIV-infected individuals on stable antiretroviral therapy (ART). Though pro-inflammatory and pro-fibrotic responses are described as components of albuminuria in the general population, it is unclear

The monocyte system in haematological malignancies [PDF]
Monocytes consist of classical, intermediate, and non-classical monocytes. In haematological malignancies, such as multiple myeloma and acute myeloid leukaemia, monocytes are affected by both the disease itself and the treatment patients receive.

Obesity raises blood levels of PAI‐1, a protein linked to metabolic dysfunction‐associated steatotic liver disease in people with obesity. In female mice fed a high‐fat diet, partially lowering PAI‐1 led to smaller subcutaneous fat cells and lower liver cholesterol, without changing body weight or insulin sensitivity.

Functional contribution of elevated circulating and hepatic non-classical CD14CD16 monocytes to inflammation and human liver fibrosis. [PDF]
BackgroundMonocyte-derived macrophages critically perpetuate inflammatory responses after liver injury as a prerequisite for organ fibrosis. Experimental murine models identified an essential role for the CCR2-dependent infiltration of classical Gr1/Ly6C(

Hijacking emergency granulopoiesis: Neutrophil ontogeny and reprogramming in cancer
Neutrophils are highly plastic innate immune cells; their functions in cancer extend beyond the tumour microenvironment. This Review summarises current understanding of neutrophil maturation and heterogeneity and highlights tumour‐induced granulopoiesis as a systemic programme that expands immature, immunosuppressive neutrophils via tumour‐derived ...

BCG vaccination potentiates oxidative phosphorylation in neonatal myeloid‐derived suppressor cells
BCG vaccination enhances oxidative phosphorylation in neonatal MDSCs, impairing their immunosuppressive function. It upregulates electron transport chain genes and mitochondrial activity, increasing ATP and oxygen consumption. Pharmacological OXPHOS inhibition partially restores suppressive capacity, confirming causality.

Different HBV DNA, HBeAg and HBsAg levels do not alter the frequency of monocyte subpopulations.
Whole blood samples from chronic HBV patients were stained for CD14 and CD16 to analyze frequencies of the monocyte CD14++CD16− and CD14+CD16+ subpopulations.
