Biocatalytic Behaviour of Immobilized Rhizopus oryzae Lipase in the 1,3-Selective Ethanolysis of Sunflower Oil to Obtain a Biofuel Similar to Biodiesel

open access: yesMolecules, 2014
A new biofuel similar to biodiesel was obtained in the 1,3-selective transesterification reaction of sunflower oil with ethanol using as biocatalyst a Rhizopus oryzae lipase (ROL) immobilized on Sepiolite, an inorganic support.

Vegetable Oil–Mediated Transesterification as a Green Route to Tune Ethyl Cellulose Properties

open access: yesJournal of Polymer Science, EarlyView.
An environmentally conscious strategy for augmenting the hydrophobicity of ethyl cellulose polymer via a transesterification reaction using renewable vegetable oil. ABSTRACT The inherent hydrophilicity of biopolymers presents significant limitations to their implementation, particularly in coating and packaging applications.

Unraveling How Antimicrobial Lipid Mixtures Disrupt Virus-Mimicking Lipid Vesicles: A QCM-D Study

open access: yesBiomimetics
Single-chain lipid amphiphiles such as fatty acids and monoglycerides are promising antimicrobial alternatives to replace industrial surfactants for membrane-enveloped pathogen inhibition.

Nanotechnology Formulations for Antibacterial Free Fatty Acids and Monoglycerides

open access: yesMolecules, 2016
Free fatty acids and monoglycerides have long been known to possess broad-spectrum antibacterial activity that is based on lytic behavior against bacterial cell membranes. Considering the growing challenges of drug-resistant bacteria and the need for new

ChitoSilkBioPatch: A bio‐inspired wound dressing scaffold for antibiotic‐free diabetic wound management

open access: yesVIEW, EarlyView.
We present ChitoSilkBioPatch, a maleimide‐functionalized chitosan/dACM hydrogel integrated with a stretchable nanopatterned silk mesh to provide intrinsic, antibiotic‐free antibacterial activity and bioactive wound support. The scaffold eliminates S. aureus and P.

Membrane-Disruptive Effects of Fatty Acid and Monoglyceride Mitigants on E. coli Bacteria-Derived Tethered Lipid Bilayers

open access: yesMolecules
We report electrochemical impedance spectroscopy measurements to characterize the membrane-disruptive properties of medium-chain fatty acid and monoglyceride mitigants interacting with tethered bilayer lipid membrane (tBLM) platforms composed of E.

Cell membrane‐coated nanoparticles for dermatological diseases

open access: yesVIEW, EarlyView.
Skin disorders are challenging to treat due to complex barrier functions and limited conventional therapies. Biomimetic cell membrane‐coated nanoparticles (CM‐NPs) offer a superior nanomedicine approach by evading immune detection and enabling precise targeting.

Upregulation of sphingomyelin and ABCA8 in response to TDP‐43 pathology in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis brain

open access: yesBrain Pathology, EarlyView.
Increases in sphingomyelin in response to TDP‐43 pathology in the disease‐affected motor cortex of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) brain. Abstract Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a rapidly progressing neurodegenerative disease characterized by the degeneration of motor neurons and the presence of TAR DNA‐binding protein 43 (TDP‐43 ...

Performance of Modified Natural Zeolites by Sodium Hydroxide Treatments in The Esterification of Glycerol and Oleic Acid

open access: yesJurnal Kimia Valensi, 2019
Esterification is the reaction of the formation of an ester compound by reacting an alcohol compound and carboxylic acid. In this study, the performance of zeolite-based catalysts has been studied for esterification reactions.

PDE4D and PDE3B orchestrate distinct cAMP microdomains in 3T3‐L1 adipocytes

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Basal conditions: •Ins/PDE3B lowers cytoplasmic cAMP (cyt‐cAMP) without affecting plasma membrane cAMP (pm‐cAMP). •Insulin decreases lipid droplet cAMP (LD‐cAMP) independent of PDE3B. •FGF1/PDE4D modestly reduces both cyt‐ and pm‐cAMP, while PDE4D alone can modulate LD‐cAMP. ISO stimulation: •Ins/PDE3B has minimal impact on cyt‐cAMP.
