Bioactive Phenolic Compounds in Extra Virgin Olive Oil: Implications for Cardiovascular Health
Extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) is rich in bioactive polyphenols that exert antioxidant, anti‐inflammatory, and anti‐atherogenic effects. These compounds improve endothelial function, modulate lipid metabolism, and reduce platelet aggregation, contributing to cardiovascular protection. Regular consumption of phenolic‐rich EVOO, as part of a Mediterranean

Their bioactive constituents act through antioxidant, anti‐inflammatory, and metabolic‐regulating mechanisms, validating their classification as functional foods. Evidence from clinical and biochemical studies largely supports these benefits, although some claims stem from preliminary or in vitro findings.

ABSTRACT Background Nut consumption has been associated with a reduced risk of functional decline, but evidence from randomised controlled trials to support functional benefit is lacking. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate whether daily supplementation of peanut butter over 6 months, relative to usual care, can improve physical function in ...
