An inexpensive medium for production of arachidonic acid by Mortierella alpina
The production of arachidonic acid was studied in the fungus Mortierella alpina using an inexpensive medium. Glucose derived from maize starch hydrolysate was the sole carbon source and defatted soybean meal and sodium nitrate were the nitrogen sources. Optimal arachidonic acid yield (1.47 g l(-1)) was observed at a glucose concentration of 100 g l(-1).

Cloning and bioinformatics analyses of the coding DNA sequence (CDS) of Delta 6 Desaturase gene from Mortierella alpina (CBS 754.68) [PDF]
Introduction: Membrane-bound desaturases and related enzymes play a pivotal role in the biosynthesis of unsaturated fatty acids. Delta6 desaturase is a key enzyme in the biosynthesis of the unsaturated fatty acids.

Disruption of lig4 improves gene targeting efficiency in the oleaginous fungus Mortierella alpina 1S-4. [PDF]
The oil-producing zygomycete Mortierella alpina 1S-4 is known to accumulate beneficial polyunsaturated fatty acids. We identified the lig4 gene that encodes for a DNA ligase 4 homolog, which functions to repair double strand breaks by non-homologous end ...

An Improved Method of Arachidonic Acid Production by Mortierella alpina
Highly unsaturated fatty acids such as γ-linolenic and eicosapentaenoic acids are now synthesized in large quantities by microorganisms but production methods of arachidonic acid are still inadequate due to its low yield for each type of medium used.

Essential fatty acids for oleaginous fungus Mortierella alpina [PDF]
Abstract Oleaginous fungus Mortierella alpina 1S-4 accumulates arachidonic acid (20:4ω6) as a major polyunsaturated fatty acid. However, 20:4ω6 is not essential for the growth of M. alpina 1S-4, because various mutants that produce no 20:4ω6 were isolated. M. alpina JT-180, a Δ12 desaturation-defective mutant that was derived from M.

Minerals Essential for Growth of the Filamentous Fungus, Mortierella alpina
Potato protein and dextrose are ideal media for cultivation of Mortierella alpina, that produces arachidonic acid. Corn peptide-dextrose medium is not suitable for growth of the fungus although amino acid compositions of the two are similar. Thus, to corn peptide- dextrose medium was added metallic salt containing quasi-major element, sodium, calcium ...
