Study of LEP, MRAP2 and POMC genes as potential causes of severe obesity in Brazilian patients
Monogenic forms of obesity are caused by single-gene variants which affect the energy homeostasis by increasing food intake and decreasing energy expenditure. Most of these variants result from disruption of the leptin-melanocortin signaling, which can cause severe early-onset obesity and hyperphagia.

The mammalian melanocortin-5 receptors (MC5Rs) are involved in various functions, including exocrine gland secretion, glucose uptake, adipocyte lipolysis, and immunity. However, the physiological role of fish Mc5r is rarely studied. Melanocortin-2 receptor accessory protein 2 (MRAP2) modulates pharmacological properties of melanocortin receptors ...

Identification of GLP1R and MCHR1 signaling as novel GPCR targets of MRAP2 protein
2022The seven trans-membrane spanning G protein couple receptors(GPCRs) constitute the largest family of FDA approved drug targets to treat numerous human diseases, including metabolic associated disorders. The Melanocortin Receptor Accessory Protein 2 (MRAP2), a small single transmembrane protein broadly expressed in multiple tissues has been defined as a

Abstract 003: Mrap2 Dissociate Mc4r-Mediated Sympathetic Control of Metabolism and Blood Pressure
Hypertension, 2018The brain melanocortin-4 receptor (MC4R) plays an important in the control of food intake and energy expenditure by increasing thermogenic sympathetic nerve activity (SNA). In addition, brain MC4R-mediated activation of SNA subserving cardiovascular organs such as the kidneys increase blood pressure.

Cardiovascular research
The melanocortin receptor accessory protein 2 (MRAP2), which is abundantly expressed in the brain including the hypothalamus, has emerged as a key regulator of melanocortin-4 receptor (MC4R) activity. We sought to delineate the physiological significance of MRAP2 in MC4R neurons, with a particular focus on autonomic and cardiovascular functions ...
