Renal Lesions in MRL Mice [PDF]

open access: bronzeVeterinary Pathology, 1982
Female MRL-Mp- lpr/ lpr mice spontaneously develop autoimmune disease at three to five months of age and die most commonly from immune complex glomerulonephritis. Kidneys of two-month-old females appeared nearly normal by electron microscopy, and glomerular deposits of IgG and complement component 3 (C3) barely were detectable.

Discovery of a new class of integrin antibodies for fibrosis

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2021
Lung fibrosis, or the scarring of the lung, is a devastating disease with huge unmet medical need. There are limited treatment options and its prognosis is worse than most types of cancer.

MRL and SuperFine+MRL: new supertree methods [PDF]

open access: yesAlgorithms for Molecular Biology, 2012
Abstract Background Supertree methods combine trees on subsets of the full taxon set together to produce a tree on the entire set of taxa. Of the many supertree methods, the most popular is MRP (Matrix Representation with Parsimony), a method that operates by first encoding the input set of source trees by a large ...

Structural insights into selective small molecule activation of PKG1α

open access: yesCommunications Biology, 2023
cGMP-dependent protein kinase I-α (PKG1α) is a target for pulmonary arterial hypertension due to its role in the regulation of smooth muscle function.

Astrocytic expression of the Alzheimer’s disease risk allele, ApoEε4, potentiates neuronal tau pathology in multiple preclinical models

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2021
ApoEε4 is a major genetic risk factor for Alzheimer’s disease (AD), a disease hallmarked by extracellular amyloid-beta (Aβ) plaques and intracellular neurofibrillary tangles (NFTs).

Sjögren's syndrome in MRL/l and MRL/n mice [PDF]

open access: yesArthritis & Rheumatism, 1984
AbstractSix autoimmune murine models (MRL/l, MRL/n, NZB, NZB/NZW, PN, C57BL/6J‐lpr/lpr) were compared with normal control C57BL/6J and DBA/2 mice to determine if spontaneous autoimmune disease was associated with evidence of Sjögren's syndrome. Schirmer tests documented dry eyes in NZB/NZW and PN mice; other autoimmune strains and controls had normal ...

Band Keratopathy in MRL/1 and MRL/n Mice [PDF]

open access: yesArthritis & Rheumatism, 1983
AbstractTo define ocular abnormalities in mice with autoimmune disease, we performed biomicroscopic examinations and examined ocular tissue in MRL/1, MRL/n, NZB, NZB/NZW, and Palmerston North mice. Results were compared with MRL/Mp‐Ipr/lpr, C57BL/6J‐lpr/lpr, and normal control strains.

Structures of active-state orexin receptor 2 rationalize peptide and small-molecule agonist recognition and receptor activation

open access: yesNature Communications, 2021
Agonists of the orexin receptor 2 (OX2R) show promise in the treatment of narcolepsy. Cryo-EM structures of active-state OX2R bound to an endogenous peptide agonist and a small-molecule agonist suggest a molecular mechanism that rationalizes both ...

Primary Human Dendritic Cells and Whole-Blood Based Assays to Evaluate Immuno-Modulatory Properties of Heat-Killed Commensal Bacteria

open access: yesVaccines, 2021
There is mounting evidence that the microbiome plays a critical role in training and maturation of the host immune system. Pre-clinical and clinical studies have shown that microbiome perturbation is correlated with sub-optimal host responses to vaccines
