Regulation of endocytosis by CUP-5, the Caenorhabditis elegans mucolipin-1 homolog

Nature Genetics, 2001
Loss of the human mucolipin-1 gene underlies mucolipidosis type IV (MLIV), a lysosomal storage disease that results in severe developmental neuropathology. Unlike other lysosomal storage diseases, MLIV is not associated with a lack of lysosomal hydrolases; instead, MLIV cells display abnormal endocytosis of lipids and accumulate large vesicles ...

Mucolipin 1 channel activity is regulated by protein kinase A-mediated phosphorylation

Biochemical Journal, 2008
Mucolipins constitute a family of cation channels with homology with the transient receptor potential family. Mutations in MCOLN1 (mucolipin 1) have been linked to mucolipidosis type IV, a recessive lysosomal storage disease characterized by severe neurological and ophthalmologic abnormalities.

Mucolipin 1: endocytosis and cation channel—a review

Pflügers Archiv - European Journal of Physiology, 2004
Mucolipidosis type IV (MLIV) is a neurodegenerative, recessive, lysosomal storage disorder characterized by psychomotor retardation and visual impairment due to various ophthalmologic abnormalities. MLIV is found in relatively high frequency in the Ashkenazi Jewish population.

Transient Receptor Potential Mucolipin-1 Participates in Intracerebral Hemorrhage-Induced Secondary Brain Injury by Inducing Neuroinflammation and Neuronal Cell Death

NeuroMolecular Medicine, 2023
Transient receptor potential mucolipin-1 (TRPML1) is the most abundantly and widely expressed channel protein in the TRP family. While numerous studies have been conducted involving many aspects of TRPML1, such as its role in cell biology, oncology, and neurodegenerative diseases, there are limited reports about what role it plays in intracerebral ...

Arterial Stiffening and Calcification Associated with Abnormal Lysosomal Positioning and Exosome Secretion in Mice Lacking Mucolipin 1 Gene

The FASEB Journal, 2020
Arterial calcification is a highly regulated cellular process that is characterized by the pathological mineral deposition leading to reduced arterial compliance. The aim of the present study was to investigate whether mucolipin 1 gene contributes to lysosomal positioning and exosome secretion which may results

Jingfang Granule mitigates Coxsackievirus B3-induced myocardial damage by modulating mucolipin 1 expression

Journal of Ethnopharmacology
Jingfang Granules (JFG) originate from the traditional herbal formula Jingfang Baidu powder. It has the effects of inducing sweating and dispelling wind. It is a classic medication used for treating external pathogenic factors and viral diseases. However, the therapeutic mechanism of JFG for viral myocarditis needs further clarification. This study ...

Metformin alleviates ribociclib-induced lung injury by restoring impaired autophagy via targeting Mucolipin-1

Toxicology and Applied Pharmacology
Ribociclib, a cornerstone CDK4/6 inhibitor for advanced breast cancer, carries a risk of serious pulmonary toxicity, including rare but fatal interstitial lung disease. This study demonstrates that ribociclib directly induces alveolar epithelial cell apoptosis, driving lung injury in mice and human alveolar epithelial cells.
