Multi-Scale Modelling of Sintering [PDF]

open access: yesKey Engineering Materials, 2008
Sintering models at the atomistic, particle and component scales are briefly reviewed and problems in the current generation of sintering models are highlighted. A strategy of multi-scale modelling is proposed and our progress in the multiscale modelling is reported.

Modelling stem cell differentiation related processes—A practical overview for biologists

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Stem cell differentiation is complex and difficult to control experimentally. This review introduces suitable computational modelling approaches that can support stem cell research, from mechanistic ODE and abstract models to multiscale and deep learning methods.

Wavy Ice Patterns as a Result of Morphological Instability of an Ice–Water Interface with Allowance for the Convective–Conductive Heat Transfer Mechanism

open access: yesCrystals
In this research, the wavy ice patterns that form due to the evolution of morphological perturbations on the water–ice phase transition interface in the presence of a fluid flow are studied. The mathematical model of heat transport from a relatively warm

Design and analysis strategies for robust microbiome ageing research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The gut microbiome changes with age and associates with age‐related morbidity and mortality, establishing it as a potential biomarker and intervention target for ageing. Realising this potential requires methodological rigour, yet distinguishing biological signals from methodological artefacts remains challenging across cohorts. This review provides an

Ground Vibrations Prediction Using Artificial Neural Networks [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Soft Computing in Civil Engineering
Predicting the propagation of ground vibration wave, induced by highways, railways, electrical power plants and other industrial activities, in their vicinity is of paramount importance to evaluate the degree of nuisance to populations, buildings and ...

Conserved binding mode but diverse interfaces of MreC‐PBP2 interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The crystal structure of abMreC reveals a conserved two β‐barrel architecture and provides structural insights into its role within the bacterial elongasome. The abMreC–abPBP2 complex model identifies the molecular basis of MreC‐mediated PBP2 recognition, contributing to the regulation of peptidoglycan synthesis.

Multi-scale Modelling of Segmentation [PDF]

open access: yesMusic Perception, 2016
While listening to music, people often unwittingly break down musical pieces into constituent chunks such as verses and choruses. Music segmentation studies have suggested that some consensus regarding boundary perception exists, despite individual differences. However, neither the effects of experimental task (i.e., real-time vs.
