Axon regeneration impediment: the role of paired immunoglobulin-like receptor B

open access: yesNeural Regeneration Research, 2015
Regenerative capacity is weak after central nervous system injury because of the absence of an enhancing microenvironment and presence of an inhibitory microenvironment for neuronal and axonal repair.

Sentinel seizure heralding Myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein (MOG) antibody-associated disease

open access: yesThe Egyptian Journal of Neurology, Psychiatry and Neurosurgery, 2023
Background Isolated seizure as a manifestation of myelin oligodendrocyte antibody-associated disease (MOGAD) has rarely been reported previously. Case presentation A 16-year-old-male presented with single episode of left focal onset motor seizure with ...

Ionizable Lipid‐Dependent Optimization of Steroid Lipid Nanoparticles With Tunable Immunomodulatory Properties

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A novel engineering strategy that establishes material design principles for incorporating anti‐inflammatory steroids into lipid nanoparticles to reduce LNP‐induced inflammation while retaining mRNA delivery. Results are validated in vitro and in three animal models of inflammation and autoimmunity in vivo.

Targeted β‐Glucan‐Veiled Oral Apremilast Nanotherapy Modulates Key Dysbiosis‐Associated Gut Microbiota and Alleviates Ulcerative Colitis‐Associated Anxiety, Depression, and Neuropsychiatric Behaviors

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study introduces β‐glucan‐shielded apremilast laden nanomicelles that withstand gastrointestinal degradation, selectively accumulate in inflamed colon tissue, and modulate the microbiota–gut–brain axis. The formulation restores barrier integrity, reduces systemic and neuroinflammation, and improves anxiety‐ and depression‐like behaviors in colitis

Engineered Brain‐Targeted Exosomes Delivering FGF1 for Sustained Glycemic Regulation and Multitarget Neurovascular Protection in Diabetic Stroke

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Diabetic stroke is characterized by a hyperglycemic and pro‐inflammatory microenvironment that exacerbates neurovascular dysfunction. However, the blood–brain barrier (BBB) remains a formidable obstacle, restricting the delivery of most therapeutic molecules.

Intrasplenic Thymus Organogenesis from Injectable Tissue Fragments Restores Functional T‐Cell Immunity

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Clinical intramuscular thymus transplantation yields only short‐lived efficacy and marginal therapeutic benefits. Benefiting from the spleen's intrinsic strengths—rapid vascular perfusion, abundant developmental factors, and resident progenitors—the intrasplenic thymic grafts achieve robust thymic regeneration and substantial T‐cell reconstitution ...

Anti–Myelin-Associated Glycoprotein Neuropathy

open access: yesNeurology Clinical Practice
The purpose of this review is to give an update on myelin-associated glycoprotein (MAG) neuropathy. There are several recent developments in anti-MAG neuropathy, with the major one being the retrospective analysis of 50 clinical trials that showed that at least a 50% reduction in anti-MAG levels is associated with a therapeutic response.

Devic mouse: a spontaneous double-transgenic mouse model of human opticospinal multiple sclerosis and autoimmune T- B cell cooperation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Multiple sclerosis (MS) is an autoimmune inflammatory disease of the central nervous system (CNS). Myelin antigen(s) specific T cells, B cells, and antibodies are thought to play a role in the pathogenesis of MS.

Growth-associated gene and protein expression in the region of axonal sprouting in the aged brain after stroke

open access: yesNeurobiology of Disease, 2006
Aged individuals exhibit reduced functional recovery after stroke. We examined the expression profile in aged animals of a recently identified group of growth-associated genes that underlies post-stroke axonal sprouting in the young adult.

TH/TRs–COL11A2 Axis Mediates Loss of a Differentiated Astrocyte State in Hypogyrified Brains

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Using a gyrencephalic congenital hypothyroidism pig model, this study reveals cerebral atrophy and cortical hypogyrification. Single‐cell sequencing identifies astrocytes as major TH‐responsive cells, with the COL11A2‐enriched Astro‐2 state nearly absent.
