Myelin/Oligodendrocyte Glycoprotein

1997
Myelinogenesis is an essential, highly regulated event that occurs during early mam-malian development whereby internodal axonal segments are enveloped by compacted multilamellar membranes. A single oligodendrocyte in the central nervous system (CNS) has the capacity to extend numerous processes, which develop into elaborate specialized membranes that ...

Clinical and Neuroimaging Characteristics of Pediatric Acute Disseminating Encephalomyelitis With and Without Antibodies to Myelin Oligodendrocyte Glycoprotein

open access: yesFrontiers in Neurology, 2020
Objective: To compare the clinical and neuroimaging characteristics of anti-myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein antibody (MOG-ab) negative and positive pediatric acute disseminating encephalomyelitis (ADEM) patients. Methods: Clinical characteristics ...

Myelin/oligodendrocyte glycoprotein (MOG) expression is associated with myelin deposition

Glia, 1996
We investigated the onset of expression of the myelin/oligodendrocyte glycoprotein (MOG) mRNA and protein in the developing mouse central nervous system. In situ hybridization on brain sections at different stages of embryonic and postnatal development showed that MOG transcripts were first detected at birth in the medulla oblongata.

Autoreactivity to myelin antigens: myelin/oligodendrocyte glycoprotein is a prevalent autoantigen

Journal of Neuroimmunology, 1999
Autoreactive T cells specific for myelin antigens are thought to play a role in the pathogenesis of multiple sclerosis (MS). We compared T cell proliferative responses in peripheral blood following challenge in vitro with myelin/oligodendrocyte glycoprotein (recombinant protein, rMOG), myelin basic protein (MBP) and proteolipid apoprotein (PLP) in 50 ...

Phosphorylation of Myelin-Associated Glycoprotein in Cultured Oligodendrocytes

Developmental Neuroscience, 1992
The myelin-associated glycoprotein (MAG) in primary cultures of oligodendrocytes is subject to phosphorylation in the absence of neurons. The positive response of this phosphorylation to vanadate suggests that one of the modified sites in MAG is phosphotyrosine.

Myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein polymorphisms and multiple sclerosis

Journal of Neuroimmunology, 2002
A detailed analysis of the coding sequences of myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotei (MOG) gene was performed in multiple sclerosis (MS) patients and in control individuals and three new polymorphisms are described: T636C, nt 571+77C-->T (IVS 4), and nt 710-44A-->G (IVS 6).

Investigation of Myelin/Oligodendrocyte Glycoprotein Membrane Topology

Journal of Neurochemistry, 1996
Abstract: Myelin/oligodendrocyte glycoprotein (MOG) is a CNS‐specific integral membrane protein that is an atypical member of the immunoglobulin (Ig) superfamily with two potential transmembrane domains based upon hydropathy analysis. With only one other exception, all Ig family members possess a single or no membrane spanning region.

Myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein antibodies in neurological disease

Nature Reviews Neurology, 2018
Anti-myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein (MOG) antibodies (MOG-Abs) were first detected by immunoblot and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay nearly 30 years ago, but their association with multiple sclerosis (MS) was not specific. Use of cell-based assays with native MOG as the substrate enabled identification of a group of MOG-Ab-positive patients with

A peanut agglutinin-binding glycoprotein in CNS myelin and oligodendrocytes

Journal of Neuroimmunology, 1987
We isolated and characterized a 120-kd PNA-binding polypeptide from the human CNS. This polypeptide is linked to membranes through a PI linkage. After release from membranes by PLC it measures 105 kd, 30 kd of which appear to be contributed by N-linked carbohydrates. We isolated the polypeptide by the use of PLC and PNA affinity chromatography and used

Myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein immunoglobulin G-associated encephalomyelitis

Zhurnal nevrologii i psikhiatrii im. S.S. Korsakova, 2020
The article discusses the role of myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein immunoglobulin G (MOG-IgG) in demyelinating diseases of the central nervous system. Clinical phenotypes of demyelinating syndromes associated with MOG-IgG that are currently included into neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorders (NMOSD) are described.
