Putative Astroglial Dysfunction in Schizophrenia: A Meta-Analysis of 1H-MRS Studies of Medial Prefrontal Myo-Inositol

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychiatry, 2018
Background: Several lines of evidence support a role for astroglial pathology in schizophrenia. Myo-inositol is particularly abundant in astroglia. Many small sized studies have reported on myo-inositol concentration in schizophrenia, but to date these ...

The Calbindin-D28k binding site on inositol monophosphatase may allow inhibition independent of the lithium site of action [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Among numerous reported biochemical effects the lithium-inhibitable enzyme inositol-monophosphatase (IMPase) remains a viable target for lithium's therapeutic mechanism of action.

Myo‐Inositol Mitigates Oxidative Stress in Bovine Mammary Epithelial Cells via Activation of the SIRT5/Nrf2 Signaling Axis

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
Myo‐inositol alleviates oxidative stress in dairy cow mammary epithelial cells via the Sirt5/Nrf2 pathway to promote mitochondrial fusion. This graphical abstract was created with BioRender.com. ABSTRACT High‐yielding dairy cows are susceptible to mammary gland oxidative stress due to prolonged intensive lactation, leading to redox imbalance.

A cell factory of Bacillus subtilis engineered for the simple bioconversion of myo-inositol to scyllo-inositol, a potential therapeutic agent for Alzheimer's disease

open access: yesMicrobial Cell Factories, 2011
Background A stereoisomer of inositol, scyllo-inositol, is known as a promising therapeutic agent for Alzheimer's disease, since it prevents the accumulation of beta-amyloid deposits, a hallmark of the disease.

Enzymatic assay of myo-inositol in serum [PDF]

open access: yesFresenius' Zeitschrift für analytische Chemie, 1986
An enzymatic spectrophotometric method for determination of myo-inositol in serum is described. The method is sensitive and rapid to perform without special equipment. Linearity between the amount of myo-inositol and absorbance was obtained in the range of 0.5 to 3 nmol myo-inositol per assay.
