The non-human glycan, N-glycolylneuraminic acid (Neu5Gc), is not expressed in all organs and skeletal muscles of nine animal species

Food Chemistry, 2021
Red meat-derived sialic acid (Sia), N-glycolylneuraminic acid (Neu5Gc), promotes the risk of carcinoma and inflammation. Expression in skeletal muscle and organs across animal species remains unknown. We measured Neu5Gc in skeletal muscle and organ tissues from nine species using UHPLC and found that: (1) neu5Gc concentration in skeletal muscle was ...

PURIFICATION AND IDENTIFICATION OF N-GLYCOLYLNEURAMINIC ACID (Neu5Gc) FROM THE HOLOTHUROIDEA GUMI,CUCUMARIA ECHINATA

Preparative Biochemistry and Biotechnology, 2001
N-Glycolylneuraminic acid (Neu5Gc), precious sialic acid which could not be synthesized by a chemical method, occurrs in the body of holothuroidea, Gumi Cucumaria echinata. Gumi contains 85% of total sialic acid, as Neu5Gc, in the body. Neu5Gc was purified from dry powder of the body using Dowex 1-x8 (HCOO* form) anion exchange chromatography after ...

Preparative route to N-glycolylneuraminic acid phenyl 2-thioglycoside donor and synthesis of Neu5Gc-α-(2→3′)-lactosamine 3-aminopropyl glycoside

Carbohydrate Research, 2002
The spacer-armed trisaccharide, Neu5Gc-alpha-(2-->3')-lactosamine 3-aminopropyl glycoside, was synthesized by regio- and stereoselective sialylation of the suitably protected triol acceptor, 3-trifluoroacetamidopropyl 2-acetamido-3,6-di-O-benzyl-2-deoxy-4-O-(6-O-benzyl-beta-D-galactopyranosyl)-beta-D-glucopyranoside, with the donor methyl [phenyl 5 ...

Neu5Gc (N-Glycolylneuraminic Acid)

2020
Among a group of SAs, NeuAc and NeuGc are two of the most common derivatives. SA biosynthesis begins at the cytosol and the synthesized SA is converted to activated nucleotide saccharide form in the nucleus. The activated SA is delivered to Golgi apparatus for ST reaction. STs add SA residues to the terminal sugars of the glycolipids, especially of the

Effects of culture conditions on N‐glycolylneuraminic acid (Neu5Gc) content of a recombinant fusion protein produced in CHO cells

Biotechnology and Bioengineering, 2010
AbstractCHO cells express glycoproteins containing both the N‐acetylneuraminic acid (Neu5Ac) and minor amounts of the N‐glycolylneuraminic acid (Neu5Gc) forms of sialic acid. As Neu5Gc is not expressed in humans and can be recognized as a foreign epitope, there is the potential for immunogenicity issues for glycoprotein therapeutics.

Abstract LB407: Enhancing sensitivity and specificity of the CA15-3 (MUC1) breast cancer assay by detection of N-glycolylneuraminic acid (Neu5Gc) using the lectin SubB2M

Cancer Research
Abstract Introduction: The aim of this study was to test the hypothesis that the diagnostic performance (as defined by the classification accuracy, sensitivity and specificity) of CA15-3 to detect breast cancer is increased by detection of the cancer-associated Neu5Gc sialic acids on the mucin MUC1 ...
