N‐Heterocyclic Carbene Stabilized Boryl Radicals
Angewandte Chemie International Edition, 2016AbstractThe reaction of the 2‐(trimethylsilyl)imidazolium triflate 9 with diarylboron halides (4‐R‐C6H4)2BX (R=H, X=Br; R=CH3, X=Cl; R=CF3, X=Cl) afforded the NHC‐stabilized borenium cations 10 a–c. Cyclic voltammetry revealed a linear correlation between the Hammett parameter σp of the para substituent and the half‐wave potential.

Anionic tethered N-heterocyclic carbene chemistry
Chemical Society Reviews, 2007Since the discovery of a stable "bottleable" N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC), there has been a spectacular explosion of interest in this ligand class. This interest stems from a desire to understand the fundamentals of the structure and bonding of these systems, but also because of their numerous and emerging applications in small molecule activation ...

N‐Heterocyclic Carbene Catalyzed Domino Reactions
Angewandte Chemie International Edition, 2011AbstractWhile organocatalyzed domino reactions or “organocascade catalysis” developed into an important tool in synthetic chemistry during the past decade, the utility of N‐heterocyclic carbenes (NHCs) as catalysts in domino reactions has only received growing attention in the past three years.

2010
Over the last fifteen years, N-heterocyclic carbenes (NHCs) have mostly been used as ancillary ligands for the preparation of transition metal-based catalysts. Compared to phosphorus-containing ligands, NHCs tend to bind more strongly to metal centres, avoiding the necessity for the use of excess ligand in catalytic reactions.

Homoleptic Crown N‐Heterocyclic Carbene Complexes
Angewandte Chemie International Edition, 2007The first metal N-heterocyclic carbene complexes derived from a cyclic tetraimidazolium salt show a remarkable versatility of ligand conformation and coordination geometry. With PdII, a mononuclear square-planar complex is obtained, but with CuI and AgI, an unprecedented dinuclear motif with a short metal–metal interaction is observed (see structure; N

N-Heterocyclic Carbenes in FLP Chemistry
2012The use of N-heterocyclic carbenes (NHCs) for the design and construction of frustrated Lewis pairs (FLPs) is outlined in this review. Stable carbene-borane adducts are briefly discussed, followed by a detailed survey of the reactivity of NHCs, in particular Arduengo-type imidazolin-2-ylidenes, towards B(C6F5)3.

Diaminocyclopropenylidene Organocatalysts: Beyond N‐Heterocyclic Carbenes
Angewandte Chemie International Edition, 2013Cyclopropenylidene carbenes have been found to be efficient catalysts for the intermolecular Stetter reaction between aromatic aldehydes and α,β-unsaturated ketones. In this transformation, the cyclopropenylidene proved superior to more traditional thiazolium- and triazolium-derived carbenes.

Magnesium amido N-heterocyclic carbene complexes
Dalton Transactions, 2008Magnesium dications bind strongly to a tridentate anionic dicarbene ligand L = [N{CH(2)CH(2)(CNCHCHNMes)}(2)] forming dinuclear and trinuclear Mg complexes with some particularly short Mg-C bonds. Treatment of the proligand H(4)LCl(3) with three equivalents of methyl magnesium chloride or benzyl magnesium chloride affords Mg(3)(HL)Cl(6) in high yield ...

Synthesis of N -heterocyclic carbene boranes via silver N -heterocyclic carbene complexes
Polyhedron, 2017Abstract The reaction of N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) complexes of silver with BH3 or BEt3 was investigated. On treatment of IiPr·AgCl (1-AgCl) (IiPr = 1,3-diisopropylimidazol-2-ylidene) with two equivalents of NaBH4-free BH3·THF (purified BH3·THF) in THF at room temperature for 2 h, IiPr·BH3 complex (1-BH3) was obtained in excellent yield (96%).
