Tetrastigma Hemsleyanum Polysaccharide Suppresses Triple‐Negative Breast Cancer by Disrupting the Hippo‐YAP/TEAD4‐PDIA4 Axis and Endoplasmic Reticulum Stress Adaptation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Triple‐negative breast cancer (TNBC) exhibits addiction to chronic endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress, which sustains an aggressive metastatic phenotype through activation of the unfolded protein response (UPR). Here, we identify a previously unrecognized “ER‐stress addiction” axis in which the Hippo pathway effector TEAD4 directly ...

Neoteny, Prolongation of Youth: From Naked Mole Rats to “Naked Apes” (Humans) [PDF]

open access: yesPhysiological Reviews, 2017
It has been suggested that highly social mammals, such as naked mole rats and humans, are long-lived due to neoteny (the prolongation of youth). In both species, aging cannot operate as a mechanism facilitating natural selection because the pressure of this selection is strongly reduced due to 1) a specific social structure where only the “queen” and ...

A Soft, Flexible Implant for Wireless Photothermal–Pyroelectric Neurostimulation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A replication strategy is used to enlarge the exposed surface area of barium titanate within flexible films with embedded carbon nanotubes, enabling efficient photothermal‐pyroelectric stimulation. Polar crystalline nanosheets show superior performance in guiding neural progenitor cells toward neuronal differentiation.

Comment on 'Naked mole-rat mortality rates defy Gompertzian laws by not increasing with age'

open access: yeseLife, 2019
Ruby et al. recently analyzed historical lifespan data on more than 3200 naked mole-rats, collected over a total observation period of about 38 years (Ruby et al., 2018). They report that mortality hazards do not seem to increase across the full range of

Nerve damage induced skeletal muscle atrophy is associated with increased accumulation of intramuscular glucose and polyol pathway intermediates [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Perturbations in skeletal muscle metabolism have been reported for a variety of neuromuscular diseases. However, the role of metabolism after constriction injury to a nerve and the associated muscle atrophy is unclear.

The ITGB2‐COPS3‐SOX2 Axis and SOX2 Liquid‐Liquid Phase Separation: Dual Mechanisms Governing Osteosarcoma Stemness

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Osteosarcoma stemness is driven by the ITGB2‐COPS3‐SOX2 signaling axis. This study reveals that nuclear COPS3 stabilizes SOX2, which in turn undergoes liquid‐liquid phase separation to promote stemness. Based on this mechanism, a novel COPS3 inhibitor, Z‐5891, was developed, effectively suppressing tumor growth and stemness in vivo, offering a ...

Age is just a number

open access: yeseLife, 2018
The naked mole rat defies the Gompertz law and shows no sign of increased mortality risk as it gets older.

Blunted behavioral and c Fos responses to acidic fumes in the African naked mole-rat. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2012
Acidosis in the skin triggers activation of pain pathways and behaviors indicative of pain in vertebrates. The exception is the naked mole-rat, the only known vertebrate to show physiological and behavioral insensitivity to acid pain in the skin.

Pretender punishment induced by chemical signalling in a queenless ant [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
Animal societies are stages for both conflict and cooperation. Reproduction is often monopolized by one or a few individuals who behave aggressively to prevent subordinates from reproducing (for example, naked mole-rats, wasps and ants).

S100A14 in Tumor‐Derived EVs Targets PIAS3 to Reprogram Astrocytes and Induce Immunosuppressive Microenvironment Promoting Brain Metastasis and Germacrone Reversal Effect

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study identifies S100A14 in tumor‐derived exosomes as a key driver of brain metastasis. S100A14 targets PIAS3 in astrocytes, activating STAT3 signaling and promoting immunosuppressive MDSCs recruitment via chemokine secretion. Germacrone, a natural compound, binds S100A14 to disrupt this axis, effectively inhibiting brain metastasis with low ...
