NAND Flash Application and Solution
IEEE Solid-State Circuits Magazine, 2013The NAND flash memory cell concept invented by Prof. Fujio Masuoka [1] inherently had advantages of the scalability, low cost, high yield, fast programming and low power operation compared with other non-volatile memories. In addition to the technological advantages, the advent of new mobile applications created a ?killer? application of the NAND flash

A strategy to emulate NOR flash with NAND flash
ACM Transactions on Storage, 2010This work is motivated by a strong market demand for the replacement of NOR flash memory with NAND flash memory to cut down the cost of many embedded-system designs, such as mobile phones. Different from LRU-related caching or buffering studies, we are interested in prediction-based prefetching based on given execution traces of application executions.

Flash new laws [NAND flash memory circuits]
Electronics Systems and Software, 2007The rapid growth in NAND flash capacity has made it possible to store hundreds of thousands of images from high-end digital still cameras. But the most recent increases in claimed capacity are coming at the expense of increased die size. The Samsung 64 Gb NAND flash memory was built using a technique called self-aligned double-patterning in an attempt ...

This chapter describes the basic operating principle and presents the major reliability and scaling limitations of floating gate NAND non-volatile memory as used in SSD applications. It further discusses charge trapping memory cells as a potential replacement for floating gate cells in the NAND array and evaluates the potential of both memory cell ...

Modeling NAND Flash Memories for Circuit Simulations
2007In this paper, we will present the basic structure and the parameter extraction procedure for a compact model of a NAND Flash memory string working in Spicelike circuit simulators. To the author knowledge, this is the first Spice-like model of a NAND Flash memory string. This model is modular and simple to be implemented.

Characterizing 3D Floating Gate NAND Flash
Proceedings of the 2017 ACM SIGMETRICS / International Conference on Measurement and Modeling of Computer Systems, 2017In this paper, we characterize a state-of-the-art 3D floating gate NAND flash memory through comprehensive experiments on an FPGA platform. Then, we present distinct observations on performance and reliability, such as operation latencies and various error patterns. We believe that through our work, novel 3D NAND flash-oriented designs can be developed

NAND Flash Scaling Beyond 20nm
2009 IEEE International Memory Workshop, 2009With the advent of prevailing mobile devices in our daily lives, the densities of nonvolatile memory, especially NAND Flash suitable for mobile devices become higher and higher, and Flash memory applications will be constantly increased in the future due to their non-volatility and high capacity.

Endurance limits of MLC NAND flash
2015 IEEE International Conference on Communications (ICC), 2015An extensive effort is being undertaken by the flash community to develop signal processing and error-correction coding schemes that make use of soft information. Using experimental data from a state-of-the-art MLC flash device we demonstrate that the theoretical endurance improvement that such schemes can bring is limited.

Improving NAND Flash Based Disk Caches
2008 International Symposium on Computer Architecture, 2008Flash is a widely used storage device that provides high density and low power, appealing properties for general purpose computing. Today, its usual application is in portable special purpose devices such as MP3 players. In this paper we examine its use in the server domain—a more general purpose environment.
