Immunohistochemical analysis of NaPi-IIb in the kidney of control and HP rats.

open access: yes, 2012
Tissue sections from control (A, B) and HP (C, D) rats were analyzed by immunohistochemistry using an anti-NaPi-IIb antibody. Sections represent cortex (A, C) and the medullary regions (B, D). Scale bar = 50 µm.

The effect of second hand cigarette smoke exposure on the rodent alveolar type IIB sodium-phosphate cotransporter

open access: yes, 2002
The sodium-phosphate (NaPi) type IIb cotransporter protein is expressed on the apical membrane of type II alveolar cells in the lung and is likely involved in surfactant synthesis.

Effects of Mealworm‐Based Synbiotics on Productive Performance, Egg Quality, Blood Metabolites, and Gut Health in Laying Japanese Quails

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 13, Issue 12, December 2025.
This study evaluated synbiotics combining Lactobacillus plantarum or a commercial probiotic (Parsilact) with 1% mealworm (Tenebrio molitor) meal in laying quails. Synbiotic supplementation did not affect feed intake, egg production, or feed efficiency but significantly improved egg quality, increasing egg weight and yolk proportion.

Approaches to determine the efficiency of novel 3-phytase from Klebsiella pneumoniae and commercial phytase in broilers from 1 to 14 d of age

open access: yesPoultry Science, 2023
: This study aimed to evaluate the effects of a laboratory 3-phytase (the expression of the phyK gene, Lab-Phy) and a commercial 6-phytase (Quantum Blue 40 P, Com-Phy) alone and in combination (corn-soy-based diets) in broilers.

Effects of Dietary 1α-hydroxycholecalciferol on Broiler Performance, Femoral Quality, and Intestinal Calcium and Phosphorus Transporter Gene Expression [PDF]

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Poultry Science
This study investigated the effects of dietary 1α-hydroxycholecalciferol (1α-OH-D3) supplementation on growth performance, femoral quality, and intestinal gene expression related to calcium (Ca) and phosphorus (P) transporters in 1- to 21-day-old ...

Neuroarchitecture of the Central Complex in the Madeira Cockroach Rhyparobia maderae: Tangential Neurons

open access: yesJournal of Comparative Neurology, Volume 532, Issue 12, December 2024.
The central complex is a group of interconnected neuropils spanning the midline of the insect brain. In the Madeira cockroach, we identified 27 types of tangential neuron providing input from various brain areas to different compartments of the central complex.

Origin and evolution of microvilli

open access: yesBiology of the Cell, Volume 116, Issue 11, November 2024.
Microvilli are widespread organelles of animal cells that frequently play a role in sensation and feeding. Ansel et al. reconstitute their origin and evolution by performing a broad morphological survey of microvilli in animals and their unicellular relatives, coupled with a bioinformatic study of the phylogenetic distribution of the main microvillar ...

Speciation of arsenic in milk from cows fed seaweed

open access: yesJournal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, Volume 104, Issue 11, Page 6957-6965, 30 August 2024.
Abstract BACKGROUND Including seaweed in cattle feed has gained increased interest, but it is important to take into account that the concentration of toxic metals, especially arsenic, is high in seaweed. This study investigated the arsenic species in milk from seaweed‐fed cows.
