Statin induced necrotizing autoimmune myopathy
Journal of the Neurological Sciences, 2015Statin induced necrotizing autoimmune myopathy (SINAM) is a recently characterized entity belonging to the spectrum of statin myotoxicity. It is a more severe form, and is usually associated with significant proximal muscle weakness, strikingly elevated creatine kinase levels and persistent symptoms despite statin discontinuation.

Necrotizing myopathy in critically‐ill patients
The Journal of Pathology, 1991Abstract Skeletal muscle wasting is commonly observed in critically‐ill patients and has been attributed to catabolic fibre atrophy and to neuropathy. This study describes the occurrence of a necrotizing myopathy in 15 out of 31 critically‐ill patients who had percutaneous biopsies taken from the tibialis anterior muscles.

Fatal Group A Streptococcal Necrotizing Myopathy
Journal of Clinical Neuromuscular Disease, 2002A 72-year-old woman on immunosuppressive therapy for renal transplantation was admitted to the hospital for diffuse, progressive weakness that developed over several weeks. Serum creatine kinase steadily increased and she developed myoglobinuria. Blood cultures were positive for group A Streptococcus pyogenes.

Here, we analyze four muscle biopsy specimens from patients exhibiting endomysial fibrosis associated with pipestem capillaries using histological and electronmicroscopic techniques.
