Effect of Guanylic Acid on Plasma NEFA Response to Stress.

open access: yesExperimental Biology and Medicine, 1960
SummaryPretreatment with hydrocortisone restores plasma NEFA response of adrenalectomized animals to normal but is without effect on intact rats. Pretreatment with guanylic acid, a purine nucleotide, abolishes NEFA response to fasting and tourniquet stress in the normal animal.

Effect of oleic acid supplementation on prostaglandin production in maternal endometrial and fetal allantochorion cells isolated from late gestation ewes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Elevated circulating non-esterified fatty acids including oleic acid (OA) are associated with many pregnancy related complications. Prostaglandins (PGs) play crucial roles during parturition.

Semaglutide impacts skeletal muscle to a similar extent as caloric restriction in mice with diet‐induced obesity

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend Four weeks of semaglutide treatment causes significant reductions in total body weight, fat mass, lean mass, and grip strength in mice with diet induced obesity. Mice treated with semaglutide lost a greater amount of total body weight and fat mass compared to mice fed fed a calorie matched diet.

Sex‐specific metabolic responses to glucagon receptor agonism and modulation of the FGF21‐glucagon axis in female mice

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend Therapies targeting the glucagon receptor are being explored for obesity treatment, yet most preclinical studies remain male biased. In this study, Merrild and Johansen et al. show that in diet‐induced obese wild‐type mice a long‐acting glucagon analogue (LA‐Gcg) elicits sexually dimorphic effects on weight loss, food intake ...

Lower cerebrospinal fluid/plasma fibroblast growth factor 21 (FGF21) ratios and placental FGF21 production in gestational diabetes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Objectives: Circulating Fibroblast Growth Factor 21 (FGF21) levels are increased in insulin resistant states such as obesity, type 2 diabetes mellitus and gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). In addition, GDM is associated with serious maternal and fetal

Distinct Roles of Myeloid‐ and Hepatocyte‐PLA2G6 Deletion in Mice With Metabolic Dysfunction‐Associated Steatotic Liver Disease

open access: yesLiver International, Volume 46, Issue 6, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Background and Aims Polymorphisms of group VIA calcium‐independent phospholipase A2 (iPLA2β or PLA2G6) are associated with Type‐2 diabetes, blood lipids and inflammation. Global deficiency in iPLA2β‐null mice elicited protection against hepatic steatosis but not hepatic inflammation after high‐fat diet (HFD) feeding.

Acute oral sodium propionate supplementation raises resting energy expenditure and lipid oxidation in fasted humans [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Short chain fatty acids (SCFAs), produced from fermentation of dietary fibre by the gut microbiota, have been suggested to modulate energy metabolism. Previous work using rodent models have demonstrated that oral supplementation of the SCFA propionate ...

Systemic Inflammation and Peripheral T Cell Responses Associate With Hepatic Energy Metabolism in Recent‐Onset Type 1 Diabetes

open access: yesLiver International, Volume 46, Issue 6, June 2026.
ABSTRACT People with type 1 diabetes feature lower concentrations of hepatic adenosine‐triphosphate (ATP) and inorganic phosphate (Pi), which further decline during the early course of disease. However, it is unknown whether inflammatory pathways are involved in the diabetes‐associated alterations of hepatic energy metabolism.

Cullin 3 mitigates nonesterified fatty acid–induced oxidative stress in mammary epithelial cells: Involvement of BCL2/BECN1 and autophagy

open access: yesJournal of Dairy Science
: High nonesterified fatty acid (NEFA) concentrations in cows with clinical ketosis lead to metabolic dysfunction in mammary cells, resulting in oxidative stress.
