Dual Role of Exosomes in Parkinson's Disease: Adenine Exerts a Beneficial Effect

open access: yesCNS Neuroscience &Therapeutics, Volume 31, Issue 4, April 2025.
Exosomes derived from the blood of healthy rats have therapeutic effects on pathology in PD mice; conversely, exosomes released by PD model rats cause PD‐like pathological features in healthy mice. Adenine, which is enriched in healthy exosomes, plays a key role in PD pathology by activating the cAMP/PKA signaling pathway.

Daily Complementary Feeding With Eggs Improves Fibroblast Growth Factor 21 in Infants

open access: yesMaternal &Child Nutrition, Volume 21, Issue 2, April 2025.
Complementary feeding with eggs led to a decrease in growth hormone resistance, as evidenced by improvements in FGF21 levels. However, baseline levels of FGF21 and I‐FAB were linked to increased growth faltering. ABSTRACT This secondary analysis of the Eggcel‐growth study investigated the effect of daily egg intake for 6 months in infants aged 6–9 ...

Detection of neopterin in tear samples [PDF]

open access: yesPteridines, 2016
Abstract The main goal of the present study was to detect neopterin concentrations in human tear samples and to evaluate its potential correlation with serum neopterin levels. For this purpose, 20 systemically healthy volunteers were recruited, and both tear and serum samples were synchronically collected from each individual.

Analysis of Tryptophan Metabolic Profile Characteristics and Clinical Value in Differentiated Thyroid Cancer Patients

open access: yesCancer Medicine, Volume 14, Issue 6, March 2025.
ABSTRACT Background Differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC) is the primary subtype of thyroid cancer. Timely diagnosis and intervention are crucial for improving prognosis and survival. However, the effectiveness of existing serum markers is limited, necessitating the discovery of new biomarkers.

Neopterin levels are independently associated with cardiac remodeling in patients with chronic heart failure [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Neopterin, a marker of inflammation and monocyte activation, is found increased in patients with heart failure (HF). This study investigates whether neopterin levels correlate with left ventricular (LV) remodeling and brain natriuretic peptide (BNP), a ...

Sex‐ and site‐specific associations of circulating lipocalin 2 and incident colorectal cancer: Results from the EPIC cohort

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cancer, Volume 156, Issue 5, Page 930-942, 1 March 2025.
What's New? Chronic inflammation can lead to cancer, particularly in the colon, and a glycoprotein associated with inflammation, lipocalin‐2 (LCN2), has been implicated in cancer progression. Here, using data from the European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition cohort (EPIC), the authors show that higher levels of circulating LCN2 are ...

Inflammatory mediators, infection, sepsis, and multiorgan failure after severe trauma [PDF]

open access: yes, 1992
The relation of (multiple) organ failure (OF) to the release of inflammatory mediators and the incidence of infection and sepsis was studied prospectively in 100 patients with multiple trauma (injury severity score=37).

Cytokine induction of neopterin production

open access: yesClinical and Experimental Immunology, 1991
SUMMARYThe pteridine neopterin is a marker of immunological activation and has been shown to be a useful marker of graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) in bone marrow transplant patients. High levels of both neopterin and interferon-gamma (IFN-γ) were produced in vitro during mixed lymphocyte responses, which may be considered to be a model of the primary ...

Faecal biomarkers in children with coeliac disease: A way forward?

open access: yesActa Paediatrica, Volume 114, Issue 3, Page 586-593, March 2025.
Abstract Aim Novel markers to reflect the intestinal damage in coeliac disease are needed. We studied the potential of faecal and serum neopterin, and faecal myeloperoxidase, human β‐defensin‐2, and lipocalin‐2 in a case–control study. Methods Data were collected from medical records and a biobank including newly diagnosed coeliac disease patients ...
