Nerve Growth Factor and Sepsis [PDF]
Neurotrophins are a family of growth factors that are polypeptide in structure and are necessary for the development and maintenance of the vertebrate nervous system. The first member of this family, nerve growth factor (NGF) was discovered in 1952 by an Italian group of scientists led by Rita Levi-Montalcini. She received a Nobel Prize in 1987 for her

Nerve Growth Factor Compromise in Down Syndrome
The basal forebrain cholinergic system relies on trophic support by nerve growth factor (NGF) to maintain its phenotype and function. In Alzheimer’s disease (AD), basal forebrain cholinergic neurons (BFCNs) undergo progressive atrophy, suggesting a ...

Primary extranodal diffuse large B‐cell lymphoma: Molecular features, treatment, and prognosis
One‐third of DLBCL arises from extranodal organs and is challenging to manage. Molecular features are critical to elucidate the differences in clinical features, predict the disease prognosis, and improve effective targeted therapeutic strategies. Abstract Diffuse large B‐cell lymphoma (DLBCL) is the most common subtype of non‐Hodgkin's lymphoma and ...

Coxeter systems with $2$-dimensional Davis complexes, growth rates and Perron numbers [PDF]
In this paper, we study growth rates of Coxeter systems with Davis complexes of dimension at most $2$. We show that if the Euler characteristic $\chi$ of the nerve of a Coxeter system is vanishing (resp. positive), then its growth rate is a Salem (resp. a Pisot) number. In this way, we extend results due to Floyd and Parry. Moreover, in the case where $

The role of the vagus nerve during fetal development and its relationship with the environment [PDF]
The autonomic nervous system (ANS) regulatory capacity begins before birth as the sympathetic and parasympathetic activity contributes significantly to the fetus' development. Several studies have shown how vagus nerve is involved in many vital processes during fetal, perinatal and postnatal life: from the regulation of inflammation through the anti ...

Local administration of icariin contributes to peripheral nerve regeneration and functional recovery
Our previous study showed that systemic administration of the traditional Chinese medicine Epimedium extract promotes peripheral nerve regeneration. Here, we sought to explore the therapeutic effects of local administration of icariin, a major component ...
