Quality Thresholds for Angiogenesis Under Acoustic Manipulation in Engineered Vascular Tissues

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 52, 18 September 2026.
Defined biological and physical quality thresholds achieved through acoustic manipulation regulate cellular alignment and spatial organization, promoting self‐assembling vasculature, extracellular matrix deposition, and angiogenic responses, thereby establishing critical acoustic patterning requirements for engineered vascular tissue development in ...

Variants in the nestin gene and coronary heart disease

open access: yes, 2008
Background. The intermediate filament protein, nestin, may play a role in tissue regeneration and nestin expression has been detected in coronary atherosclerotic plaques.

Biomimetic Hydrogel System Targeting S100A8 Centered Neuroimmune Crosstalk and Hypoxia Induced Neuronal Injury

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 52, 18 September 2026.
A biomimetic hydrogel (HPC@Gel) was developed for traumatic brain injury repair by combining oxygen‐carrying hemoglobin nanoparticles and anti‐inflammatory carbon quantum dots within a brain‐like matrix. The system alleviated hypoxia, reduced harmful neuroimmune signaling, protected neurons, supported neural regeneration, and improved neurological and ...

Extracellular matrix remodeling upregulates hippocampal neurogenic niche stiffness and impairs neurogenesis in Alzheimer's disease

open access: yesAlzheimer's &Dementia, Volume 22, Issue 9, September 2026.
Abstract INTRODUCTION Preserving adult hippocampal neurogenesis alleviates cognitive deficits in Alzheimer's disease (AD), yet how biophysical alterations in such as stiffness in the neurogenic niche regulate neurogenesis remains unclear. METHODS Stiffness in the hippocampal dentate gyrus subgranular cell zone (SGZ) of 5×FAD mice was measured using ...

Nestin serves as a prosurvival determinant that links to the cytoprotective effect of epidermal growth factor in rat vascular smooth muscle cells

open access: yes, 2012
[[abstract]]Nestin is an intermediate filament protein mainly expressed in muscle and neural progenitors. Recently, we reported that nestin is expressed in rat vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs), disappears after serum-deprivation and then is re ...

RETRACTED: Nestin Regulates Autophagy‐Dependent Ferroptosis Mediated Skeletal Muscle Atrophy by Ubiquitinating MAP 1LC3B

open access: yesJournal of Cachexia, Sarcopenia and Muscle
Background Programmed cell death plays a critical role in skeletal muscle atrophy. Ferroptosis, an iron‐dependent form of programmed cell death driven by lipid peroxidation, has been implicated in various diseases, but its role in skeletal muscle atrophy

Inhibition of METTL14 Alleviates OGD/R‐Induced Neuronal Differentiation Injury in Neural Stem Cells Through Suppressing the Tp53inp2/Ptgs2 Axis: Potential Benefits for the Mouse MCAO Model

open access: yesCNS Neuroscience &Therapeutics, Volume 32, Issue 9, September 2026.
The graphical abstract highlights that ischemic stroke leads to increased METTL14 expression, which enhances Tp53inp2 mRNA stability through m6A modification. Elevated Tp53inp2 then promotes damaging mitophagy and ROS production by upregulating Ptgs2, ultimately impairing the neuronal differentiation of neural stem cells.

PPARγ‐Dependent Pioglitazone Treatment Suppresses Neuroinflammation and Improves Cognition in Sepsis‐Associated Encephalopathy in Mice

open access: yesCNS Neuroscience &Therapeutics, Volume 32, Issue 9, September 2026.
Pioglitazone alleviated CLP‐induced sepsis‐associated encephalopathy in mice by activating PPAR‐γ, improving survival, learning, and memory, and anxiety‐like behavior. It also protected the BBB, suppressed TLR4/NF‐κB‐associated inflammation, and reduced neuronal apoptosis, effects largely reversed by GW9662.

Nestin : filament formation and expression in myogenesis and muscle disorders

open access: yes, 1997
Intermediate filaments (IF), together with microfilaments and microtubules, are the major components of the cytoskeleton of eukaryotic cells. In myogenic cells three IF proteins are expressed; desmin, vimentin and nestin.
