Influenza Neuraminidase: Underrated Role in Receptor Binding.

open access: yesTrends in Microbiology, 2019
Influenza virus neuraminidase cleaves sialic acid groups from cell glycoproteins, enabling release of the virus from host cells. Neuraminidase also contributes to virus binding to the sialic acid groups of cell glycoproteins, which could complement the ...

Dynamic Shifts in ER–Plasma Membrane Junctions Signaling Define Pro‐Metastatic N‐Glycosylation and Predict Prostate Cancer Progression

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Prostate cancer remains a leading cause of male cancer death, yet screening cannot reliably identify aggressive disease, underscoring the need for tissue biomarkers. It is shown that primary tumors increase ER–plasma membrane junction signaling via STIM1/ORP5, whereas metastasis features their loss, Golgi dispersal, and rapid conversion of high‐mannose

Neuraminidase in Bacteroides fragilis [PDF]

open access: yesApplied and Environmental Microbiology, 1983
A neuraminidase from Bacteroides fragilis was purified 542-fold by isoelectric focusing, adsorption chromatography on Affi-Gel 202, and gel filtration chromatography on Sephadex G-200. On isoelectric focusing the neuraminidase was resolved into three differently charged fractions with pI values of 6.8, 7.1, and 7.4.

Broadly protective murine monoclonal antibodies against influenza B virus target highly conserved neuraminidase epitopes

open access: yesNature Microbiology, 2017
A substantial proportion of influenza-related childhood deaths are due to infection with influenza B viruses, which co-circulate in the human population as two antigenically distinct lineages defined by the immunodominant receptor binding protein ...

Therapeutic Applications of Stimuli‐Based Release and Engineering of Extracellular Vesicles

open access: yesAdvanced NanoBiomed Research, EarlyView.
This review summarizes the effects of endogenous and exogenous stimuli, their effects on the natural release of extracellular vesicles, as well as their uptake and release. It also gives an overview of stimuli‐responsive EVs and their therapeutic applications. Extracellular vesicles (EVs), nano‐ to microsized lipid bilayer membrane‐bound particles, are

Characterization of H5N1 influenza A virus that caused the first highly pathogenic avian influenza outbreak in Saudi Arabia

open access: yesJournal of Infection in Developing Countries, 2015
Introduction: Saudi Arabia (SA) experienced a highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) H5N1 outbreak in domesticated birds in 2007. Methodology: Forty-three hemagglutinin (HA) and 41 neuraminidase (NA) genes of HPAI H5N1 viruses were sequenced and ...

Multiple Neuraminidase Containing Influenza Virus-like Particle Vaccines Protect Mice from Avian and Human Influenza Virus Infection

open access: yesViruses, 2022
Avian influenza virus remains a threat for humans, and vaccines preventing both avian and human influenza virus infections are needed. Since virus-like particles (VLPs) expressing single neuraminidase (NA) subtype elicited limited heterosubtypic ...
