Multi‐Functional Adaptive Interfaces for Next‐Generation Wearable and Implantable Bioelectronics

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Adaptive Biointerfaces: A comprehensive overview of next‐generation bioelectronics is presented, highlighting mechano‐adaptive and biophysiologically adaptive interfaces that enable stable, long‐term integration with living tissues. As illustrated in the image, adaptive interface strategies, including mechano‐adaptivity (e.g., injectability, shape ...

Assessment of Initial Stay Time and Work‐Rest Scheduling Over Consecutive Moderate‐Intensity Workdays in Hot Environments in Young and Older Males and Females

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Industrial Medicine, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Initial stay time (IST), the duration of continuous work before core temperature reaches 38.0°C, has been characterized in young and older adults but not across consecutive work periods or in conjunction with standard work‐rest cycles.

Electrophysiological Recordings of Evoked End-Plate Potential on Murine Neuro-muscular Synapse Preparations

open access: yesBio-Protocol, 2018
Neuromuscular junction (NMJ) is the specialized chemical synapse that mediates the transmission of the electrical impulse running along motor neuron axons to skeletal muscle fibers.

WDR79/TCAB1 plays a conserved role in the control of locomotion and ameliorates phenotypic defects in SMA models [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
SMN (Survival Motor Neuron) deficiency is the predominant cause of spinal muscular atrophy (SMA), a severe neurodegenerative disorder that can lead to progressive paralysis and death.

Metformin enhances external urethral sphincter integrity and restores continence via AMPK activation in a rat model of stress urinary incontinence

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, EarlyView.
The pathogenesis of stress urinary incontinence (SUI) is intimately associated with injury to the external urethral sphincter (EUS). In this study, we established an SUI model induced by double vaginal distension and demonstrated that metformin treatment activated the AMPK signaling in the EUS tissue.

Congenital muscular dystrophy: from muscle to brain. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Congenital muscular dystrophies (CMDs) are a wide group of muscular disorders that manifest with very early onset of muscular weakness, sometime associated to severe brain involvement. The histologic pattern of muscle anomalies is typical of dystrophic ...

The Dynamics of Neurofilament Light Chain in Spinal Muscular Atrophy

open access: yesAnnals of Neurology, EarlyView.
Objective Newborn screening (NBS) for spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) facilitates early diagnosis and treatment for affected individuals. However, fluid biomarkers that provide early insights into disease activity and outcomes in a neonatal cohort and those unable to access (due to reimbursement criteria) or deferring immediate treatment are lacking ...

Concomitant symptom and medicine related exacerbation in myasthenia gravis: how to analyse the clinical causal relationship

open access: yesChinese Journal of Contemporary Neurology and Neurosurgery, 2012
Symptoms of autonomic nervous system involvement and exacerbation of weakness after taking several medicines are often seen in myasthenia gravis (MG). The autonomic nervous system involvement may be a part of clinical manifestation of MG or may be caused

Histochemical and immunohistological approach to comparative neuromuscular diseases.

open access: yesFolia Histochemica et Cytobiologica, 2009
The broad category of neuromuscular diseases covers conditions that involve the weakness or wasting of the body muscles. These problems may occur in the spinal cord, the peripheral nerves or the muscle fibers.
