Neurosecretion by Exocytosis

1976
Publisher Summary This chapter discusses the neurosecretion by exocytosis. The neurosecretion theory was based on the selective staining of secretory substances within some neurons of the central nervous system. Typical neurosecretory cells appear to offer special advantages for the study of controlled membrane fusion.

Neurosecretion in the White Leghorn cockerel

General and Comparative Endocrinology, 1965
Abstract The median eminence and posterior pituitary of White Leghorn cockerels was examined to see if there was a relationship between the presence of aldehydefuchsin positive neurosecretory material (NSM) and activity of the testes or pituitary and photoperiod.

Neurosecretion and behavior in arthropods

General and Comparative Endocrinology, 1962
Abstract The roles of neurosecretory hormones in behavior have been analyzed on the neurophysiological level, using the cockroach as the experimental animal. Corpora cardiaca release neurosecretory hormones into the hemolymph and into axons connected to the subesophageal ganglion.

The phylogenetic origin of neurosecretion

General and Comparative Endocrinology, 1964
Abstract Comparison of the neurosecretory granules with the gliosecretion and other chrome-alum-hematoxylin-positive structures in the nerve ganglia of Periplaneta americana has suggested a tentative hypothesis of the evolution of neurosecretory function in general. It is proposed that the neurosecretion had a twofold phylogenetic origin.

Histophysiology of Synapses and Neurosecretion

JAMA: The Journal of the American Medical Association, 1965
Events and structures fundamental to nervous-system function emerge from their previously invisible and unknown state through progress in electron microscopy. It is highly appropriate that this excellent compendium, and also assessment, of our knowledge should be set forth by de Robertis, who, with his colleagues, has pioneered many of these advances ...

Neurosecretions and hormones

1981
In this chapter we have considered the morphological, physiological and biochemical aspects of the endocrinology of Periplaneta americana. Every attempt has been made to refer to relevant literature in which P. americana is the experimental animal. In those instances in which useful experimental data have been obtained from cockroach species other than

An Outline of Neurosecretion

1994
Publisher Summary Neurons send messages by secreting neurotransmitters that interact with receptors on the surface of target cells. When a neuron is appropriately stimulated and the plasma membrane depolarized, Ca 2+ immediately enters the nerve ending.

Neurosecretion: A Historical Overview

2020
The conceptual and experimental origins of neurosecretion are discussed. The discovery of the neurosecretory cell by the Scharrers and Bargmann and their insights that this cell type possessed the characteristics of both endocrine cells and neurons are presented.

Neurosecretion in Vertebrates

1978
The impetus emanating from a scientific event is not only determined by the quality of the papers read and the discussions held but is also dependent on the atmosphere in which a scientific exchange can develop. I believe that the Seventh International Symposium on Neurosecretion in Leningrad has confirmed this experience.
