Neutrophil Gelatinase–Associated Lipocalin (NGAL) as a Marker of Kidney Damage
American Journal of Kidney Diseases, 2008Neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL) is a protein belonging to the lipocalin superfamily initially found in activated neutrophils, in accordance with its role as an innate antibacterial factor. However, it subsequently was shown that many other types of cells, including in the kidney tubule, may produce NGAL in response to various injuries.

Neutrophil Gelatinase-Associated Lipocalin in Acute Kidney Injury
2012Acute kidney injury (AKI) is recognized as an independent risk factor for morbidity and mortality. Unfortunately, this syndrome was historically underdiagnosed due to inconsistent definition of AKI as well as insensitive and nonspecific diagnostic tools.

Neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL)

Expression of Neutrophil Gelatinase—Associated Lipocalin in Human Salivary Glands
Annals of Otology, Rhinology & Laryngology, 2007Objectives: We performed an observational study of RNA and protein expression in human tissue to examine the distribution of neutrophil gelatinase–associated lipocalin (NGAL) in normal and chronic inflammatory salivary tissues, and to investigate the expression level of NGAL in inflammatory conditions of ...

Neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin: a biomarker in COPD.
Chest, 2010Neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL) is an antimicrobial peptide that could be involved in the pathogenesis of COPD. This study aimed to measure the plasma levels of NGAL in a large cohort of patients with COPD and control subjects and examine the levels of NGAL by COPD characteristics. The study included 402 patients with COPD and 229 ...
