cDNA Cloning of Murine Nrf 2 Gene, Coding for a p45 NF-E2-Related Transcription Factor
Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 1995A lambda gt11 cDNA library was constructed from poly-A rich RNA prepared from circulating murine yolk sac derived nucleated erythroblasts, on day 9 of gestation. In addition to the embryonic globin genes, this library was found to contain clones for the hematopoietic specific p45 NF-E2, as well as p18 NF-E2 and p45 NF-E2 related factor 1 (Nrf 1) genes.

NF-E2-related factor 2 and its role in diabetic nephropathy.
Iranian journal of kidney diseases, 2014Diabetic nephropathy is the leading cause of chronic kidney disease and end-stage renal disease. Oxidative stress has been recognized as a major contributor to its pathogenesis. Defensive mechanisms have also widely been studied. One of them, the NF-E2-Related Factor 2, is reviewed in this article.

A few studies have clearly indicated that oxidative stress suppresses the cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance receptor (CFTR) function and expression. However, the mechanisms by which this occurs are still poorly understood. To clarify this effect, we investigated the role of NF-E2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) transcription factor, a key cellular ...

Sulforaphane (SFN) is a dietary isothiocyanate that exerts chemopreventive effects via NF-E2-related factor 2 (Nrf2)-mediated induction of antioxidant/phase II enzymes, such as heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) and NAD(P)H quinone oxidoreductase 1 (NQO1). This work was undertaken to evaluate the effects of SFN on hepatic fibrosis and profibrotic transforming ...

Transcription factor NF-E2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) regulates the induction of antioxidative proteins, including heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1). Nrf2 is sequestered in the cytoplasm by Keap1 under unstimulated conditions but translocates into the nucleus and transactivates the antioxidant responsive element (ARE) upon exposure to oxidative insults.

Resveratrol (3,4',5-trihydroxy stilbene), a phytoalexin found in the skin and seeds of grapes, has been reported to possess anti-inflammatory, anticarcinogenic, and antioxidant activities. In this work, we assessed the ability of resveratrol to upregulate heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) gene expression via activation of NF-E2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) in ...

Dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitors exert a potent anti-hyperglycemic effect and reduce cardiovascular risk in type 2 diabetic patients. Several studies have shown that DPP-4 inhibitors including sitagliptin have beneficial effects in atherosclerosis and cardiac infarction involving reactive oxygen species.

Overexpression of NF-E2 related factor 2 via viral-mediated gene transfer in vivo.
2005The transcription factor NF-E2 related factor 2 (Nrf2) is responsible for the upregulation of the cellular anti-oxidant defence system. Upon stimulation by free radicals or reactive oxygen species (ROS), the cytoplasmic-bound Nrf2 translocates to the nucleus and initiates transcription of genes containing anti-oxidant response elements (AREs) within ...

Frequent alterations are observed in glucose metabolism in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Activation of various enzymes, including ones involved in the pentose phosphate pathway, by NF-E2-related factor 2 (NRF2), controls redox homeostasis in HCC. However, the mechanisms mediating NRF2 activation remain unclear.
