Vascular smooth muscle cell mechanotransduction: Pathways, phenotypes and emerging technologies

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend Vascular smooth muscle cells are exposed to mechanical stimuli from the blood flow and the extracellular matrix. The cells sense the signals from cyclic stretch, shear stress, hydrostatic pressure and matrix stiffness through specialized mechanosensors, such as mechanosensitive ion channels or cell surface receptors including ...

NFAT promotes carcinoma invasive migration through glypican-6

open access: yes, 2011
Invasive migration of carcinoma cells is a prerequisite for the metastatic dissemination of solid tumours. Numerous mechanisms control the ability of cancer cells to acquire a motile and invasive phenotype, and subsequently degrade and invade the ...

The interplay between dynamic regulation of ion‐channel gating and trafficking in cardiac arrhythmogenesis

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend Cardiac cellular electrophysiology is modulated by multiple factors, including temperature, extracellular K+, heart rate/pacing frequency, and drugs. These modulators can have distinct effects on ion‐channel gating and transcription/trafficking over time.

From Association to Mechanism: Regulatory Annotation and Pathway Mapping of Genes Surrounding Breast Cancer Risk Variants

open access: yesComputational and Systems Oncology, Volume 6, Issue 1, December 2026.
ABSTRACT Inherited factors account for a large share of breast cancer susceptibility, yet the biological consequences of most risk variants are still poorly understood. To address this gap, we studied 175 breast cancer risk variants confirmed by genome‐wide association studies and gathered the genes that lie near them.

Dodonaea viscosa in Breast Cancer: Phytochemistry, Anticancer Mechanisms, and Emerging Immunotherapeutic and Translational Perspectives

open access: yesCancer Medicine, Volume 15, Issue 10, October 2026.
ABSTRACT Breast cancer remains a leading cause of cancer‐related mortality among women worldwide, with treatment resistance, disease heterogeneity, and therapy‐associated toxicities limiting clinical outcomes. Its major clinically relevant subtypes, including oestrogen receptor‐positive (ER+), human epidermal growth factor receptor 2‐positive (HER2 ...

Synthesis and Stereochemical Revision of the Aromatic Polyketide NFAT-133

open access: yes, 2019
NFAT-133, isolated from Streptomyces sp., is an immunosuppressive, antidiabetic, and antitrypanosomal aromatic polyketide with three contiguous stereocenters. The first enantioselective total synthesis of the proposed structure of NFAT-133 [(10R,11R,12S)-

Stability‐guided transition modelling reveals an Active‐to‐Evasive immune ecosystem continuum in cervical cancer

open access: yesClinical and Translational Discovery, Volume 6, Issue 5, October 2026.
A stability‐guided, transition‐aware systems immuno‐oncology framework reveals an Active‐to‐Evasive immune ecosystem continuum in TCGA‐CESC. The biologically structured Intermediate region and complementary robustness analyses support graded immune attenuation, adaptive ecosystem remodelling, and increasing immune–tumour uncoupling across this cross ...

Maturation‐Dependent Constraints in the Ability of Human Monocytes to Initiate Trained Immunity

open access: yesMedComm, Volume 7, Issue 10, October 2026.
In premature infants, innate immune memory may serve as an important compensatory mechanism for the underdeveloped adaptive immune system. However, monocytes derived from prematurely born individuals display abnormal metabolic and insufficient transcriptomic responses to β‐glucan‐induced training.

The Drosophila NFAT homolog is involved in salt stress tolerance

open access: yes, 2007
The NFAT gene encodes the only homolog in Drosophila of the five human Nuclear Factors of Activated T-cells, NFAT1-5. Its rel homology domain is most similar to that of NFAT5, and like the latter it lacks conserved AP1 and calcineurin binding sites.
