Ursodeoxycholic Acid Reduces Angiotensin‐Converting Enzyme 2 Activity and Suppresses Cytokine Storm Syndrome in Patients With Coronavirus Disease 2019

open access: yesMedComm, Volume 7, Issue 9, September 2026.
SARS‐CoV‐2 infection causes COVID‐19 and stimulates immune cells, such as dendritic cells, monocytes, and macrophages, to increase levels of many cytokines. Ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA) inhibits farnesoid X receptor (FXR), resulting in a decrease in the activity of angiotensin‐converting enzyme 2 (ACE2), the main receptor on the membrane for SARS‐CoV‐2.
