Antenatal diagnosis and maternal sirolimus treatment of polyhydramnios, megalencephaly, and symptomatic epilepsy (PMSE) syndrome

open access: yesPregnancy, Volume 2, Issue 3, May 2026.
Abstract Background Polyhydramnios, megalencephaly, and symptomatic epilepsy (PMSE) syndrome is a rare autosomal recessive mTORopathy caused by biallelic STE20‐related kinase adaptor alpha (STRADA) loss‐of‐function variants. Animal models demonstrate that in utero mechanistic target of rapamycin (mTOR) inhibition can prevent cortical dyslamination ...

Serum and Urine Nerve Growth Factor and Glycosaminoglycan Levels in Obstructive and Non‐Obstructive Feline Urolithiasis and Interstitial Cystitis

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 12, Issue 3, May 2026.
Elevated NGF levels in serum and urine are associated with increased bladder inflammation and tissue damage in FIC cases. In contrast, reduced urinary GAG levels except in obstructive urolithiasis may contribute to bladder inflammation by enhancing urothelial permeability.

Impacts of Fire on Flow Magnitude and Variability in the Southeastern Amazon Basin

open access: yesWater Resources Research, Volume 62, Issue 5, May 2026.
Abstract Increasing fire within the Amazon rainforest is a significant disturbance that has the potential to alter flow regimes and subsequently impact local ecology and ecosystem services. While previous studies have examined the impact of land cover change on streamflow, the specific effects of fire on the hydrology of Amazonian forested catchments ...

Comorbid Alzheimer's Disease and Type 2 Diabetes Microbiota Shape Age‐Associated Gut–Brain Axis Profiles

open access: yesAging Cell, Volume 25, Issue 5, May 2026.
Fecal microbiota transplantation from elderly donors with Alzheimer's disease, type 2 diabetes, or both conditions into antibiotic‐treated mice revealed that comorbid microbiota produce the most severe dysbiosis and strongest suppression of hippocampal neurotrophic gene expression.
