Stem cell–based therapies for type 1 diabetes: Progress in differentiation, clinical translation, and immune protection

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, EarlyView.
Directed differentiation of pluripotent stem cells into functional pancreatic β cells have emerged as a promising strategy for the radical treatment of type 1 diabetes, with preclinical and early clinical evidence demonstrating reversal of hyperglycemia and insulin independence.

Merging Biocatalysis and Chemocatalysis in Flow: State‐of‐the‐Art and Future Directions for Sustainable Synthesis

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
This review highlights recent advances in integrating biocatalysis and chemocatalysis in continuous flow to create streamlined, sustainable processes. It examines chemo‐enzymatic cascades combining at least one enzymatic and one chemical step, discusses challenges such as enzyme immobilization, leaching, and reactor clogging, and presents solutions ...

Stereoselective Biotransformation: Transfer of Learning to Advance Drug Metabolism and Biocatalysis

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
Understanding stereoselective biotransformations has implications for predicting drug disposition and response and may also inspire novel biocatalytic and biomimetic strategies to address challenges in metabolite and API synthesis. ABSTRACT Chirality is an important determinant of drug action, as enantiomers can exhibit markedly different ...

Electroenzymatic CO2 Fixation

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie International Edition, EarlyView.
Electroenzymatic CO2 fixation enables energy‐efficient, highly selective synthesis of complex molecules. Unlocking its full potential requires fundamental understanding of electrode‐coupled reductases and carboxylases. This review critically discusses available enzymes, product scope, and key thermodynamic and kinetic considerations, highlighting ...

Metabolomic investigation of cisplatin‐induced acute kidney injury in paediatric cancer patients

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Aim Cisplatin causes acute kidney injury (AKI) in approximately 46% of paediatric cancer patients who receive it. Serum creatinine (SCr) is a poor biomarker of cisplatin nephrotoxicity, because there is a delay between cisplatin infusion and SCr elevation.
