Pd0/PR3-catalyzed arylation of nicotinic and isonicotinic acid derivatives.

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, 2010
The first example of C-H functionalizations of pyridine rings at the 3- and 4-positions is developed using Pd(0)/PR3/ArBr. This reaction provides a powerful method for the preparation of structurally diverse nicotinic and isonicotinic acids that are of ...

Nicotinic Acid Metabolism

open access: yesJournal of Biological Chemistry, 1964
6-Hydroxynicotinic acid was demonstrated to be the first intermediate in the degradation of nicotinic acid by a clostridium. In the presence of pyruvate, other intermediates accumulated; two of these were identified, one as 1,4,5,6-tetrahydro-6-oxonicotinic acid, and the other as α-methyleneglutaric acid.

Alpha-conotoxins as pharmacological probes of nicotinic acetylcholine receptors

open access: yesActa Pharmacologica Sinica, 2009
Cysteine-rich peptides from the venom of cone snails (Conus) target a wide variety of different ion channels. One family of conopeptides, the α-conotoxins, specifically target different isoforms of nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChRs) found both in

Structural mechanism for regulation of DNA binding of BpsR, a Bordetella regulator of biofilm formation, by 6-hydroxynicotinic acid.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2019
Bordetella bacteria are respiratory pathogens of humans, birds, and livestock. Bordetella pertussis the causative agent of whopping cough remains a significant health issue.

Chemical Synthesis of a Functional Fluorescent-Tagged α-Bungarotoxin

open access: yesToxins, 2022
α-bungarotoxin is a large, 74 amino acid toxin containing five disulphide bridges, initially identified in the venom of Bungarus multicinctus snake. Like most large toxins, chemical synthesis of α-bungarotoxin is challenging, explaining why all previous ...

Regions of beta 2 and beta 4 responsible for differences between the steady state dose-response relationships of the alpha 3 beta 2 and alpha 3 beta 4 neuronal nicotinic receptors [PDF]

open access: yes, 1995
We constructed chimeras of the rat beta 2 and beta 4 neuronal nicotinic subunits to locate the regions that contribute to differences between the acetylcholine (ACh) dose-response relationships of the alpha 3 beta 2 and alpha 3 beta 4 receptors ...

Nicotinic α7 acetylcholine receptor-mediated currents are not modulated by the tryptophan metabolite kynurenic acid in adult hippocampal interneurons [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The tryptophan metabolite, kynurenic acid (KYNA), is classically known to be an antagonist of ionotropic glutamate receptors. Within the last decade several reports have been published suggesting that KYNA also blocks nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChRs) containing the \alpha7 subunit (\alpha7*).

The insulinotropic potency of fatty acids is influenced profoundly by their chain length and degree of saturation.

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Investigation, 1997
Lowering of the elevated plasma FFA concentration in 18- 24-h fasted rats with nicotinic acid (NA) caused complete ablation of subsequent glucose-stimulated insulin secretion (GSIS).

Manipulation of Chemistry and Biology with Visible Light Using Tetra‐ortho‐Substituted Azobenzenes and Azonium Ions

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
Tetra‐ortho‐Azobenzenes (TOABs) in broad daylight: in recent years, TOAB photoswitches became indispensable tools for all‐visible‐light manipulation of chemistry, biology and materials. This review explores their unique photochemical properties, design and synthetic approaches, offering support in choosing a TOAB for a given application.

A computational insight of the improved nicotine binding with ACE2-SARS-CoV-2 complex with its clinical impact [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
Smokers being witnessed with the mild adverse clinical symptoms of SARS-CoV-2, the in-silico study is intended to explore the effect of nicotine binding to the soluble angiotensin converting enzyme II (ACE2) receptor with or without SARS-CoV-2 binding.
