Structural basis of human α7 nicotinic acetylcholine receptor activation

open access: yesCell Research, 2021
Dear Editor, Nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChRs) are a class of pentameric ligand-gated ion channels (pLGICs) widely expressed in nervous system.

Activation of muscle nicotinic acetylcholine receptor channels by nicotinic and muscarinic agonists [PDF]

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, 1999
The dose‐response parameters of recombinant mouse adult neuromuscular acetylcholine receptor channels (nAChR) activated by carbamylcholine, nicotine, muscarine and oxotremorine were measured. Rate constants for agonist association and dissociation, and channel opening and closing, were estimated from single‐channel kinetic analysis.

Acute Administration of Desformylflustrabromine Relieves Chemically Induced Pain in CD-1 Mice

open access: yesMolecules, 2019
Neuronal nicotinic acetylcholine receptors are cell membrane-bound ion channels that are widely distributed in the central nervous system. The α4β2 subtype of neuronal nicotinic acetylcholine receptor plays an important role in modulating the ...

Dyskinesia and brain-derived neurotrophic factor levels after long-term levodopa and nicotinic receptor agonist treatments in female mice with near-total unilateral dopaminergic denervation

open access: yesBMC Neuroscience, 2018
Background The treatment of Parkinson’s disease is often complicated by levodopa-induced dyskinesia (LID). Nicotinic acetylcholine receptor agonists can alleviate LID in animal models but may be less effective in conditions of severe dopaminergic ...

Developmental sex differences in nicotinic currents of prefrontal layer VI neurons in mice and rats.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2010
BackgroundThere is a large sex difference in the prevalence of attention deficit disorder; yet, relatively little is known about sex differences in the development of prefrontal attention circuitry.

The Nicotinic Agonist Cytisine: The Role of the NH···N Interaction

open access: yesThe Journal of Physical Chemistry Letters, 2022
We report a detailed structural study of cytisine, an alkaloid used to help with smoking cessation, looking forward to unveiling its role as a nicotinic agonist. High-resolution rotational spectroscopy has allowed us to characterize two different conformers exhibiting axial and equatorial arrangements of the piperidinic NH group.

Aspectos toxicológicos e químicos da Anatoxina-a e seus análogos

open access: yesQuímica Nova, 2006
Anatoxin-a and its analogues are azabicyclic alkaloids that represent one of the most powerful nicotinic agonists known for the nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (nAChR). Because of this potent mechanism of action, anatoxin-a and its derivatives represent

Nicotinic alpha 7 receptor agonists EVP-6124 and BMS-933043, attenuate scopolamine-induced deficits in visuo-spatial paired associates learning. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2017
Agonists at the nicotinic acetylcholine alpha 7 receptor (nAChR α7) subtype have the potential to treat cognitive deficits in patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD) or schizophrenia.

Muscarinic and Nicotinic Contribution to Contrast Sensitivity of Macaque Area V1 Neurons

open access: yesFrontiers in Neural Circuits, 2017
Acetylcholine is a neuromodulator that shapes information processing in different cortical and subcortical areas. Cell type and location specific cholinergic receptor distributions suggest that acetylcholine in macaque striate cortex should boost feed ...

The Association Between Vascular Inflammation and Depressive Disorder. Causality, Biomarkers and Targeted Treatment

open access: yesPharmaceuticals, 2020
Diabetes, obesity, atherosclerosis, and myocardial infarction are frequently co-morbid with major depressive disorder. In the current review, it is argued that vascular inflammation is a factor that is common to all disorders and that an endothelial ...
