Revisiting the merits of nifedipine [PDF]
Randomized trials of blood pressure reduction have shown a reduced risk of stroke and heart failure. Among blood pressure-lowering agents, blockers of the renin-angiotensin system, such as angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors (ACEIs) and AT1 receptor antagonists (ARBs), are thought to have specific properties beyond blood pressure control, which ...

Background and Purpose Hydrogen sulphide (H2S) is synthesised endogenously through cystathionine β‐synthase (CBS), cystathionine γ‐lyase (CSE) and 3‐mercaptopyruvate sulfurtransferase (3‐MST). Although exogenous H2S is known to produce vasodilatation, the vascular effect of H2S produced through 3‐MST is unknown. In this study, we demonstrate the effect

Background and purpose The action potential underpinning calcium delivery for contraction in human uterine smooth muscle (myometrium) consists of an initial spike(s) followed by a prolonged plateau of depolarization to ⁓ −25 mV. The plateau duration establishes contraction duration, especially important in labour.

A Comparative Study to Determine the Efficacy of Atosiban versus Nifedipine in Management of Preterm Labour [PDF]
Introduction: Preterm Labour (PTL) remains a significant challenge in obstetrics, contributing to neonatal morbidity and mortality. The management of PTL involves the use of tocolytic agents to delay delivery, thereby allowing for further foetal ...

ABSTRACT Introduction 3D‐printed teeth/models are important adjuncts in dental education. Nevertheless, there is a lack of simulated cases to learn and understand complex treatment scenarios, including anamnesis, diagnosis, treatment planning and therapy.

Cellular mechanisms of long‐term osmoregulation in magnocellular neurons
Abstract Osmoregulation is an essential homeostatic process that maintains the osmolality of the extracellular fluid (ECF) close to a physiological setpoint. Vasopressin (VP) plays a key role in osmoregulation and is secreted by the magnocellular neurosecretory cells (MNCs) of the hypothalamus.

One thousand and two patients with cardiovascular disease (CVD) were observed over 10 years. Data were collected from 792 study participants. Severe periodontitis proved to be an independent risk factor for new cardiovascular events. Tooth brushing more than once a day and performing interdental hygiene were associated with decreased risk.

The Role of Oxidative Stress in Periodontitis
Oxidative stress is involved in multiple chemical reactions that take place in different intracellular organelles: mitochondria, rough endoplasmic reticulum, peroxisomes, autophagy, and aging, and can be influenced by exogenous factors: nutrition, physical activity, psychological status, environmental conditions, microbiome, and drugs.

Calcium antagonist nifedipine in treating pregnant women with arterial hypertension: pro and contra
Calcium antagonist nifedipine, an antihypertensive and anti-anginal medication with vasodilating action, is widely used in cardiology practice. According to the recommendations on cardiovascular disease management in pregnancy, by the European Society of
